Pokémon Card Scalpers Stampede

I'm pro capitalism, but anti scalper in some weird way. One of the most rewarding things I've done was sticking it to a scalper, even though I did it in a really dbaggish way, but to this day I still get a sense of satisfaction from it.

How do we know these specific people are resellers? They're fucking douchebags but I'd like to see some receipts before we go calling them out as scalpers.

Love the part at the beginning that showed the dude with a cane lining up for the doors to open. Homeboy got fucking goofed, all he's gonna get are the Digimon cards.

They should grease the floors and have it like a a Takeshi's castle obstacle course. Maybe have the racks move or rotate to the other aisle occasionally. See them slippin' around those corners.

Could make it into a league and find out who was the very best and caught the most and reward them with some goofy participant only Pokemon card.

Million dollar idea right there, just have them sign a waiver against injury or something once the cross the threshold into the game.

Do people ultimately buy these things to actually play the game or just to collect? Not talking about resellers, but the people buying from resellers?

Why don't they just print more fucking cards

This shit was bad when adults were buying all those happy meals during the mcdonalds pokemon promo a few months back. It's not just pokemon though, even sports cards are hard to find.

So is there a card shortage due to covid or what happened that Pokémon cards suddenly seem to be in such high demand and so attractive to scalpers?

Does it really matter.

Question: "Son, I saw a video of you fighting people over something called a 'Pokemon card', what do you have to say for yourself?"

Answer 1: "Dad, I just love the game Dad!"

Answer 2: "Dad, I make a few dollars off of each pack Dad!"

Response: "Well son, you are out of the will, and please say goodbye to your mother on the way out the door."

I mean it kind of does matter. Saying they're scalpers without any proof is just being ignorant. Assuming the dad would do something stupid like that is also just an uneducated guess and ignorant.

I wonder if any of them will see that video one day and ask “man what am I doing with my life… literally I’m wasting it away on the most worthless shit of all time. I really am a waste of space and time in this universe.”

one of my brothers does the online shopping thing at Walmart. He sent me a picture yesterday at 7am of like nine dudes and one lady waiting by the trading card section for the “Pokémon card lady”. He sent me another picture at noon of the same people sitting there still waiting 😂

Is the profit that good on these things that you’ll wait five hours+?

Thinking the same thing. What sparked this demand for Pokemon cards resulting in this embarrassment?

Trading cards are up big during covid.

My buddy dabbles in sports cards on the side for fun and making extra cash. Since everyone is at home bored out of their minds, and sports are on lockdown, a lot of people have got into buying sports cards to keep interest.

And all that means is guys like my buddy with probably 10,000s cards he's collected over his life can sell shit at way more than usual.

Sad.

Come on now. You really think these, at least physically, grown ass adults behave like heathens just to play the game afterwards or put them in a binder? Of course they're scalpers.

My son had a shiny Pikachu in his Happy Meal a while back and I could have easily sold it for 20-30 €. For a piece of cardboard that's quite a lot and that's only the low end of this madness. I let him keep it of course, fuck all that noise.

Not bothered by scalpers -- just another link in the food chain -- but that's fucking ridiculous. Gluttony.

I don't think boredom has anything to do with it. People keep getting stimulus checks and unemployment benefits above and beyond what they normally made at their job. Politicians would have you believe everyone is buying groceries and paying down credit card debt with that money, but I'm guessing a good amount of our tax dollars are going into speculative crypto and trading card 'investments'

It's the same reason why so many people can all of a sudden drop a thousand dollars on a scalped ps5 when most couldn't handle an unexpected thousand dollar medical bill in normal times

That a lot of people have some Monopoly money to spend, which is creating scalper markets for things like pokemon cards? Collectibles in general have skyrocketed in value over the last year. People are buying them with the expectation that they'll make more money later

Hey at least they are being civil. They could have started pulling eachother's hair and set the store on fire while twerking.

Also it's not really a stampede, it's just about 8 chubby lads running in a store...
