Interesting numbers here:
1-2, 4 players... but not 3?
43 memory card blocks... that's quite a bit for a Nintendo game...

Nintendo is positioning this as the console RPG version of Pokemon that we've "all been waiting for", but I've been hearing that it's just another watered down colosseum game. What's the real story here?

3 players isn't supported because it would be awkward balancing it out in a fight.

I see no reason why this will be any different from Colloseum.

Colosseum had a fantastic adventure mode. It's sad most people overlooked the game because it's title hit a little too close to "Stadium".

This basically looks like a follow-up to Colosseum's adventure mode, which is a very good thing.

If I'm going to buy an RPG, I think I'd be better off with a solid 8. That's what I meant. There's something fundamentally wrong with these games, and since I have no love or hate for Pokemon to begin with, I'd prefer something else if the game's just another 7.5 affair.

Wait a second... I tried to play Colosseum. The adventure mode consists of very drawn out, boring battles (no way to disable the annoying animations) and a no-frills RPG. The adventure mode was pretty much a one way street, with no really opportunity to alter from the storyline.

I hate this art so much >___< ... I hope they've updated some animations and graphical glitches and made the purification thing easier and faster...

When Pokemon was first released in Japan, I was a middle-schooler. As soon as I got my hands on the game, I played the hell out of it. Right then and there I was completely convinced that a beautiful 3D MMO based on the IP would be the best selling game in history.

While this isn't an MMO... it's not beautiful either. It's 3D, that's something. Still, my childhood dreams are dashed. Even if Nintendo does pull off a DS MMO it will probably be too little too late for me to be interested.

Oh well.

This might be an interesting game for the casual Pokemon player who only plays thru the story mode on the GBA.
But I have a hard time to see what this offers those who dwell into the deep features offer in the GBA games after the story mode.

I already have bred some awesome Eon combos. The stadium mode in Colosseum sucked and I must say the Battle Frontier offerings on Emerald are great.
The only enticing offering this seems to have is the possibility to get a purified Lugia…
Pokemon Box is the only console offering so far which has been of any real worth.

I hope that the time played clock goes past 99:59 which Colosseum's stopped at. The GBA ones go on for hundreds of hours~I like keeping track of how much time I've put in. How did I put that much time into Colosseum ya ask? Well....the Deep Colosseum is the penultimate place to level your POKéMON up to 100 after you've finished EV training them on the GBA games.

i agree. while xd looks nice pokemon handheld rpgs are brilliant because of the freedom. hopefully genius sonority has improved the game [from colosseum].

do you know if you can use pokemon box with the us version of pokemon ruby/sapphire?

There was a US localization of Pokémon Box, you could buy it at NoA's Service Center (I should've picked up a copy) and at the Pokémon Center in NYC. It just didn't see wide release.

I got Pokemon Box. :) Kinda helps to be near the service center.

Anyways, ALL that I hope this game fixes is the shadows.
Did you look at Jumpluff's shadows of the puffs?
Since it's a 2D Sprite with transparencies, the rendered shadow is a cube. :( That always upsets me.

That is one of the graphical glitches I was talking about...

POLISH!!!

To its credit, Pokemon XD looks somewhat cleaner and more polished than Colosseum did. The best part would be 60FPS. I'm not a FPS whore (that's dark10x's expertise... not at the whore part :lol) but I think a solid framerate would clinch it for me. That, and skipping animations like the GBA games.

I suppose this will be Nintendo's best selling GC game all year if it proves to be successful enough (barring Zelda), but there has to be something useful in this game for that to happen. Is Lugia a popular Pokemon? Yes indeed.

Stop using n64 graphics for the Pokemon that we had since Stadium ONE...honestly lets get creative.
What? The Pokemon are the only part of the game that looks good. A lot of the animations are nice (Espeon became one of my favorite Pokes after a few minutes with this game, Suicune looks great, Togepi's faint is pretty funny) but they just take too long to play out during battles. And there are these constant pauses between everything that happens. The fights might not be so bad if I couldn't feel the game loading after each attack and menu selection.
