Polygon: There was one big snub in the Game Awards nominations

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a game engineered to succeed at The Game Awards, did not

The Game Awards' voting jury snubbed BioWare's latest game in a series of key categories where it would have been expected to compete. It secured just one nomination, for Innovation in Accessibility, which is decided by a specialist jury.

This is a surprise; as a narrative-led blockbuster in a famous series with slick production values, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is exactly the kind of game that tends to do well at The Game Awards. Its predecessor, Dragon Age: Inquisition, won Game of the Year in TGA's inaugural year, 2014.

Granted, the reception to The Veilguard has been mixed — and with its Metacritic rating settling at 82, a nomination for Game of the Year seemed beyond its reach (even though that is one point higher than Black Myth: Wukong, which did make the cut).

In the end, though, there's not much in this set of nominees to ruffle any feathers — outside of BioWare's offices, that is.

It wasn't snubbed. It just wasn't good.

And deep down, inspite of some of those reviews from the bigger outlets, they knew it too.

(Im not talking about the "woke" stuff. In the end, the game is mid and they know it).

If it were any good, it probably would have been nominated.

There were half a dozen games that missed out that were critically more acclaimed than Trans Age : The Veilguard.

Lmao Veilguard, ive finished that game, it shouldnt be getting even the one nomination that it has. It has the exact same accessibility options as an average Ubisoft game, thats not worthy of the so called innovation award

But they are right that there was one big snub now that DLCs and even updates are eligible, if the awards had any credibity then the nominations and winners would look something like this:

Describe to me what made it a VERY GREAT game in your own words?

Why? You have over 100 reviews that would explain that to you in detail. I loved both games, but for different reasons. I personally would have picked RDR2 over GOW 2018, but that doesn't mean RDR2 was snubbed.

Are you a dad? Dads tend to prefer GOW 2018 over RDR2. It's the best Greek God Daddy simulator on the market.

LOL! Yes I am a dad. But I don't think that's why I loved the game.

Remember, Polygon gave a walking simulator Gone Home a 10/10.

That game is honestly the singular reason I don't believe professional critics/reviewers. Some heavily insinuated it was a horror game.

Fuck spoilers, you should know this eyes wide open if you never played it. There is nothing horror in that fucking game. Like I don't mean that it wasn't that scary. I mean flat out... any supernatural or horror elements is a red herring. There is none. I won't say anything else about the plot except for that if you still want to play the game after knowing that. But I red more than one review that teased a horror game and it was just a.. idk, mundane drama story about family bullshit.

Lol, that's funny. I don't mean to be derogatory or anything. I really liked GOW, but much prefer RDR2.

I've had this theory for a while that GOW is a power fantasy for dads and might've given it a boost to the 30-/40-something critics whose votes hold weight in TGA, and I'm always looking for data points.

Well..........I was 35 when the game released. :)

We might as well watch it on Youtube. 0 replay value.

Time to trigger echochamber gaf. Veilguard is better than all Geoff's GOTY nominations this year with the exception of Rebirth since I havent played it yet. My GOTY tho is SH2 remake so far, but I'm still debating whether remakes should count or not, Like a Dragon IW would be second best. Hopefully Stalker 2 delivers.

Balatro is better better than the bloated Silent Hill 2 remake which we've all experienced its' strongest aspect decades ago.

Astro Bot and Final Fantasy Rebirth are better than all of them.

It's not the TGA without someone somewhere being upset that something is being snubbed.

Let's ask the 1000xResist fans what it really feels like to feel snubbed.
