Holy shit. The end of an era. I've used this site countless times, it's sad to see it go.
 
Drama between the owner Nightcrawler and his own community on Discord and X caused it all to implode. Basically the singular owner of the site was accusing those around him of doxxing and harassment style behavior, and others have come forward saying that Nightcrawler wasn't a victim, but essentially would not let community members help him in such a way to make the site more updated, efficient, and cost effective. Basically, accusing him of a schoolboy mentality of "taking his ball and going home."

Not sure whose side to believe on any of this, but regardless, this site is going to be missed. What a loss for the gaming community. I hope another rom hacking site rises to take it's place, but it seems for now new hacks will be scattershot all over the Internet. RIP Romhscking.net you will be missed.

What? Man, this fucking sucks.

Right now there are a bunch of promising English translations in the works for PS1, PS2 and PSP games that I was looking forward to - and RomHacking usually was a good place to keep track of which projects are happening in that scene.
 
Sad but why do all these site owners have to be such a bunch of drama queen's about everything.

There's always some manufactured psycho drama going on in the background which leads to them quitting.

Is it some kind of personalty trait amongst this type of community that makes them all so thin skinned?

It was all set off by the chuds who formed RomHackingdotOrg harassing Nightcrawler and ddosing RHDN along with aggressively scraping RHDN for data to build their own (garbage wordpress) site.
 
Well there goes my third rom/emulation site I used a lot. Times, they are-a-changing. KInda wild to be hearing about some GoT style backstabbing for a rom site though, but at least it's stuffs are getting preserved.

Yes, but according to him his own people who he was working with to pass off his site to, was the ones doing the harassing, but they come out and say otherwise. Was it really a third faction causing those issues or his own people with in fighting and a struggle of which direction to take the site? Doubt the real truth will be known unless someone has the receipts to back it up. All I know is that's it's a damn shame, and hopefully a quality non jank site will pop up and take it's place someday.
 
This was really THE central hub for Tom hacks, it's pretty devastating to see it go, but I hope the community can rebuild and find a good home.
 
I hope something else will pop up at a real site, and not just scatter into discord servers. I loathe discord for these kinds of things, it's a worthless black hole that won't be archived or preserved and is impossible to index/navigate well.
 
I only used it for news so not much difference going forward I guess, most projects have their own sites or other places to get them from (or even were hosted elsewhere originally and romhacking.net just added them to their database too).
 
I'm not sure, but it looks like the website is accepting submissions now. I can't find anything about it on google. The websites news submissions do not mention anything.
 
i think it's back to normal now, i recall, seems to few days ago there are updates on the site about new (retro) games translation

That would be great. It was such a shame the site went offline as it hosted a lot of cool materials for so many games.
