Popular Science might've given away GB Micro price - $100

I just got the September issue in the mail today, and it's right there on page 32, in "The Goods," section.

A Small but Bright Star

Game Boy Micro » Nintendo shrunk its Game Boy down to the size of a pack of gum. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery nets about 10 hours of battery life for the backlit two-inch screen. Swappable faceplates.
$100 » nintendo.com

No new information other than the price, so maybe that's just an estimate (it sometimes is on the page), but I assume they usually go with the information given to them.

That price is

1. Rape
2. Licence to print money
3. Both

4 - about $45 too high

I wouldn't be surprised if it's £75 over in Britain tbh. The GBA SP still retails for £70 which is wallet rape

I'm not doubting that Nintendo would make a lot of money on the GBM at that price but it's going to be at the expense of DS sales. Nintendo is fracturing the handheld market too much.

Its a crap gimmick and they are pricing it that high! This is the third GBA, Im sure evryone who has one doesnt need another.

100 bucks for a smaller screen and the option to BUY MORE GBA accessories (faceplates)? I pass and will just stick with my GBA SP.

Not only is it the third GBA but the fifth way to play GBA games.

Word had it at one time that it would have play-yan functionality built in. If that is the case $100 is well worth it, otherwise sell it for $50

Since when is 'Popular Science' a respected magazine for game related info? It's not going to be 100 dollars. That's only 30 dollars less than the DS.

I posted this on another gaming forum but I don't think it'd hurt to post it here:

"Yeah... I mean, people have to consider what they're paying for: a stripped down Game Boy Advance. It has no backwards compatibility whatsoever, the screen is, amazingly, even smaller than before, and this thing might (MIGHT) be a bit too small for its own good. If Nintendo prices this thing over $50, they're crazy, plain and simple."

popular science had a pretty good article on Forza in the past. i dont read the magazine much though

Except this can't play their MP3s.

With the rumoured Play-Yan it can. Some of them at least.
Still this aims at the "luxury & unnecessary" sector. I'm pretty sure 50% of Micro sales will be from people who already own GBA not from first-comers.

what's sad is i konw it'll sell like the proverbial hotcakes this xmas...

i wouldn't be surprised to see parents buy a ds for the older kid and a micro for the younger...
"wow, settle both kids in for the price of a PSP!"

Why would it sell? I mean you can get a GBA SP cheaper or if you have some money left over a DS to play those nifty new DS titles. I don't understand their business sense here.

Because people like tiny shiney things.

The GBA micro is 'cute' it's up there with ipod Mini's for size and the screen on it is really crisp. Plus you can fit it in any pocket, unlike the SP or the DS which require some form of commitment to carry around.

If they did this and bundled a western v2 play yan with a decent SD card, it wouldnt be that bad a price...

if its just the micro, it needs to be lower.

Gameboy's are like Ipods (only about 20X more popular) now. Why is anyone suprised that they are releasing multiple styles and models, just like Apple does? They are just giving people multiple options. You dont want a Micro or think its too expensive? Get an SP or a DS.

if Nintendo prices this thing around $50 it will be the fastes selling thing ever

if they price it round $100 it will stay on the shelves forever

Every price is too much for the Micro IMO. It's just such a redundant thing - who needs a handheld on which you can't even read the texts of the games properly ? They should've remade the GBA SP in a sleeker way, with a better display.

:lol I concur. I was told the same by my source: common sense.

I recall reading before that the Micro was to be the "price of a single game" or something along those lines. Was this just internet rumor or did it actually once come from the mouth of someone at Nintendo?
