GTA VI on Switch 2 Rumor Thread

Im assuming they will really benefit from the Switch 2 hardware:

The Red dead Redemption 1 remake needs DLSS on the switch 2 to hit 60 FPS ..... no way the switch can run something like GTA 6.
It's likely using DLSS for AA purposes, since a, say, 1080p output through DLSS is likely to result in less jaggies than the 7th gen techniques such as MSAA likely employed in the original code.

For instance, the 2023 PS4 version of the game used FSR for AA.
 
They can't even get fucking Elden Ring to run properly on a Switch 2 but somehow Rockstar will put GTAVI on it?

Leaker is spanish, so confirmed huge anti-ninny/switch bias, he is claiming gta6 switch2 port to make switch2 players hopeful and then to shatter their dreams.

What makes this more believable for me is NatetheHate also heard similar BUT he clarified it could be simply rockstar testing the game on switch 2 to even see if a port is possible, as opposed to a port in the works. To me that's the more likely scenario

It's funny, I bought a PS5 pro to be able to play GTA 6, but with my life, I barely have time to sit in front of the TV to play games … these days most of my gaming is done via portable systems, presently specifically the switch 2

So if this game comes out on both systems, I might end up getting the switch 2 version in the end. (Unless there is no switch 2 version or they support cross save like cyberpunk, in which case rockstar will have sold me 2 copies)

I don't know how that would be possible. GTA VI looks like the most "next-gen" thing yet, and the Switch 2 is decidedly not "next-gen". It would pretty much be like putting this game on PS4.
 
Maybe. The main issue would be the CPU and possibly the I/O setup.

I was thinking that too but at the same time, GTA 4 and 5 physics and AI were running on a PS3. GTA 4 being even better in physics actually. It's not like Rockstar is building on shaky foundations, the past games were highly efficient for what they were doing. The engineers over there are pretty fucking solid.

If they use mesh shaders for streaming geometry then it would save a ton of bandwidth and CPU cycles, it benefits low power hardware the most. I would assume they used mesh shaders to have their own version of UE5's nanite tech, be it for streaming massive worlds or just to reduce LOD pop-in. Switch 2 has dedicated hardware for I/O, compared to old generations where GTA 5 existed, Switch 2 is a lot closer to modern consoles in I/O handling (probably not on carts though).

I think its things like muscle tech that would be cut, purely visual and doesn't add to gameplay. And I bet Series S also has similar cuts if not even more drastic (in texture quality).

If 60 fps on consoles, 30 fps Switch 2 version would not surprise me that much.

I have zero doubt that rockstar would try everything they have to port it, no matter how bad it looks. At worst the cutbacks will make it look like The Witcher 3 on the Switch and after SW Outlaws and Cyberpunk, that level of visual fidelity is more than enough.

The Switch 2 cpu being trash is a very bad argument, when they can create separate assets for a Console that's all set to potentially sell and have an installed base of 100 mil+ all over again, so that they can not only sell their single player campaign for $70, but also milk this base in their GTAO component through microtransactions and other forms of monetisation like subscription services within the game, just like GTA5. The gpu not that far off from a Series S, and has a far better AI upscaler than both the other Consoles.

We'll get a far better idea once the inevitable RDR2 Switch 2 port drops pretty soon.

It's getting ported and I'll die on this hill. The question is when.
 
Sure would be a better ROI port it on Switch 2 than Xbox Series S, but who know. Rockstar always supported Nintendo platforms tho, so anything could be.

FWIW, Gears of War had tests on the PS3 during its development as well. A lot of third party devs do this.

Seeing how RDR2 performs on Switch 2 will be a litmus Hopefully we find out by April/May.

Nash already said on X that he was waiting for confirmation that the game is going to be release on Switch 2, also he talked about the test a few months ago too...

so a PS4 game running better on Switch 2 ( a console a little more powerful than a PS4pro ) somehow is an indicative of GTA 6 ( PS5/XSX and next gen ) running on it too ? SW2 cant even handle Borderlands 4 at the moment, but hopefully R* ll pull some miracle port like CDPR did with The Witcher on SW1.
