If Atlus did publish it, I doubt there'd be any changes from the JPN version (other than of course, translated text into English). That's because Atlus caters to their hard core fans that want the game AS IS, just in a language they can read kthx.
 
The only reasonable way to localize the game would be to only translate the text and leave the original soundtrack intact. But who's going to buy a game full of licensed songs they've never heard of in a language they can't understand?

edit: Besides which -- anybody who's interested in a game like that probably already has the Japanese version.

I hope this gets released state side. It's one of the best games I've played in years. more people here deserve a chance to try it out. I wouldn't even care if the songs end up getting switched for English songs; since they'd have to change the patterns, it'd be like a whole new game for me :D

But a few of the situations in the game are uniquely Japanese, and I'm not sure they'd fit very well with american music

I get McPhineas point but either way with english songs or not this game isn't going to sell much so why bother? just leave the sountrack intact please.
 
I don't know. I think there is a chance, I mean, I'm sure Namco had some doubts with bringing over Katamari Damacy unchanged with the original OST. I think sales were good enough, and the praise for the game and soundtrack were good enough for a try with something like Ouendan.
 
The difference is that Namco owns all of the Katamari music. Everything in Ouendan is licensed, and SPEAKING IN GENERALITIES HERE if you're going to be paying for licensed songs you want to be licensing something that's familiar to your audience.

The top brass at INIS are big music fans across many different genres, and they're well-connected in that industry. So they know what they're doing in regards to licensing music.

Forgot about that. Let's hope that if it does get a US release, we don't get EA TRAX in return. That was a great fear with Katamari, and this more so (since the music is licensed).
 
Kobun makes a very valid yet unnerving point. The game seems to have a chance of making it to our shores but the music has the smallest chance of staying intact. If a publisher were to go out of their way to license the original music, it would be of no benefit to them. The original music would serve little to no purpose in the NA market, especially when aiming for sales. It would be much easier, and practical, for the publisher to license music that fits the market and would possibly net the most sales.

I've imported the game, but I would love to see it get localized with it's original music intact, but it just seems like such a longshot.
 
What was the situation with Gitaroo Man's music? Was it licensed? Owned by Koei?

I loved that game and depending on what happens with this, Ouendan might be the first game that I actually import.
 
hell, in this hypothetical launch world, it would be awesome for us guys who have played the ass out of the game to get a bunch of new tunes/levels.

I'd think Ouendan fans who already own the game would WANT the music to be changed for the US. That way it's kinda-sorta like getting a new game. I know you're not sick of "Cup Of Life" or "Take On Me" yet!

I mean, I'm as happy as the next guy that they bring stuff like Tactics Ogre over, but if they were to bring Ouendan over, then they clearly have no perception of the US market beyond what Atlus fans at GAF say they want (even though everyone who wants the game has it). Music gameplay and licensing notwithstanding, this'd be an absolutely silly game to even attempt to bring over to America. No way does Atlus have the resources to localize it, either.

Done like that would not only convince me to buy a DS but actually put a gun to my head and force me.

So pretty much, let's hope we get Japanese pop music instead of American?

If you want the Japanese music, buy the Japanese version. If you don't understand the text, you won't understand the music either, so what's the difference? I'm with Kobun, JackFrost and DCharlie on this one - I hope they make an English version with English tunes since it'll be like a sequel to me.

Yeah? So. The only games that Atlus can publish are games that their original publishers pass on. Either because the Japanese publisher can't afford to publish the game in America, or they've determined its not economically viable to (e.g. too niche).

Can anyone name a single Atlus title where the developer making the game was saying, "oh! I'm making this for Atlus to publish!" at the time of development?

Seriously though, if the game does release here and doesn't have the music intact... I wish atleast that RSG would be kept as the final song. Isn't FMA getting popular here in the U.S. anyway?

Someone certainly seems to dislike Atlus.

Actually, an entire game based on novelty songs would be hilarious. Sort of like my old DEMENTO RACING game concept...
