This happened a few years back near Winnipeg. I guess some vehicle was out in the middle of a lake and it had started to warm up too much, trapping them there. On their way out to rescue them, the RCMP Yukon sunk through the ice, then froze overnight.

Why the fuck would you be standing next to that truck?

You know, it doesn't take very much ice to support a 100 kg human. I think the accepted value is 2.5 cm of good ice for every few hundred kilograms or something. I mean, there are other things you have to take into account, like the weight of the snow and if it's warm, there's gonna slush, but if the ice is frozen around a vehicle like that, it's a good bet that you'll be safe.

That first pic is amazing. Looks like it was raining with lots of wind, and froze over the rainstorm. I've seen that kind of ice before here in Edmonton, like on the cars (not the trees), it's a total bitch. Especially with the kind of weather we're having recently it's very possible where it warms up so it rains instead of snow, and then all freezes mid-rain.
