Post some awesome screensavers (inspired by an amazing NES screensaver I found)

So I came across this screensaver:

It's called "Nintendo Saver" and it's a wall of NES games, emulating right on your desktop. They're actually playing emulator movie files, which you can download near effortlessly within the screensaver settings. It automatically highlights the games it finds in your ROM folder, too:

So when the screensaver kicks in, it emulates all these NES games at once for you, and you can use the arrow keys, press the space bar, and play any game you want from that point in the movie. For the past 20 minutes, I just beat the final boss of Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros., and played some Kirby's Adventure and Donkey Kong out of the blue.

It's also pretty configurable, too. It will utilize a multi-core processor, you can change the graphics settings, you can have a max number of emulated games (if your PC sucks or you don't want to waste battery/power), etc.

As for other cool screensavers, I used to have one which was a clock featuring an Asian girl pop group, but I don't remember what it was...

But anyway. Post some more awesome screensavers.

I remember having a screensaver years ago (windows 95 era) that was some cartoon guy stuck on an island in the middle of the ocean trying to escape and failing. Anyone know that one?

Part of why the NES one is cool is because you can play any game you want right in the middle of the movie. It may not sound cool, but once you have it in front of you, and you see Mega Man going into the final boss fight, it's hard not to say "Hey, I want to play that."

People still use screensavers?

I will admit that I personally don't use them because I don't care enough to apply one, but I'd make it a point to use the NES one. (if I didn't share the computer with my mother).

Nothing wrong with them, especially if you're using a TV and you leave it idle. it'll create something nice on your TV.

I know the wisdom is that we don't need screen savers anymore because of better screen tech.. But actually I have a PC hooked up to a plasma TV.. So burn in is a factor again.

I'm surprised it seems absolutely nobody here uses screensavers anymore. Oh well. It's just something to look nice for when your computer goes idle, not anything "hipster" about it. lol

Is this a stealth emulation/piracy thread?

Emulation =/= piracy. I'm not condoning or endorsing piracy in any way. You have to supply your own ROMs for this screensaver, as you would with any NES emulator.

Screen savers were created because CRT monitors have the capacity to "burn in" images that are left too long.

DLP's, LCD's, and LED's don't experience that issue, so no screen saver needed. Besides, it's more power conscious to let the monitor go into its low power mode after a time instead of making it run a screen saver.

Oh yes they do.

Nifty screensaver, it's impressive how that Nintendo one works.

I've been using one for awhile now called Electric Sheep... people always ask me what it is when they walk by my desk. It generates tons of insane random patterns that you can up or downvote and it'll learn your preferences over time.
