I was unboxing all my DVD's lining them up against the wall waiting for my new metal “bookshelf” to arrive; I saw my digital camera and then noticed the “post your gaming setup” topic in the gaming section, and them something clicked in my brain....

Name or post a photo of all your DVD's people

My dad has his own DVD collection, but these are the ones I've bought:

Janacek: Cunning Little Vixen (opera, animated by Geoff Dunbar, who also did Peter Rabbit)
Seinfeld Seasons 1 & 2
Dragonheart I & II
The Tuxedo (don't ask)
Bjork: The inner or deep part of an animal or plant structure (making of Medulla)
Experience the Deep (discarded library item)
1976 Paris-Roubaix video

I'll be honest, I have slightly "female-esque" tastes in movies. Especially the right side of the top row. I still have a good number of no-thought action movies there. Well a couple.

My collection is split between my apartment and my parents' home, so pictures aren't of much use. Furthermore, my shelf at my apartment is in close proximity to a wall, so I can't really get any decent shots of it.

Anyway, here's my collection. I actually maintain the On Order and Wish List sections too, so there's information there as well. I have no doubt my collection will breach the 200 mark by a good margin by year's end.

I'm too lazy to post them on the infernet, they're saved as a Word file on my PC.

God, I think I still have some newer DVDs that I haven't updated the list with... Yeah, I dunno. I think I've spent too much money on these things. They're all sitting in stacks on my floor, waiting for when I can order a gigantic shelving unit. So no pics yet.

The digital version of heroin.

Somewhat, yeah. I really like these threads because it lets me quickly and easily look through DVD collections and hopefully find a movie that I don't have and didn't realize was available.

Dan said:
Do you actually own the Indiana Jones Trilogy set and the individual films separately, or are you just padding your list?

Nah, I just own the set. If I remember correctly, right when it came out DVDaf hadn't updated to accomodate the set so I had to choose the 3 individually.

I should probably update that; in some instances, I do own two versions of the movie; Almost Famous, Amadeus, Goodfellas... etc. I probably own like 4 copies of Musa.

Okay just checking :lol These threads (and the Desktop threads) always seemed like exercises in Geek Vanity to me. Everybody posts some huge list/picture that nobody pays any attention to....no responses or coversations...

It's also interesting to see the interesting combinations of tastes some people have. Some people buy in just a few genres and some buy all kinds of stuff. It's just interesting to what others like and deem important enough to purchase. What Mike Works said is true too, although sometimes I hate myself for looking at stuff I wish I had. It only makes me build up my wish list and want to spend more cash.

Yeah, most threads like this one are just that. Post your videogame collection, post your CD collection, etc. But I'm a DVD nut, I love them, so I actually find these series of threads useful every now and then. Drives me nuts when people take blurry, out of focus pictures, because there's no point then.

432 titles at the moment. Latest additions: Howards End, Tropical Malady, Saw, and Raging Bull; Shield: Season 3 and Huckabees this coming Tuesday.

I've weeded out most of the so-so and questionable movies over the past few months, so I'm pretty happy with the collection now. There are very few in there that I can see myself parting with anytime soon, so it's only going to get larger as time goes... Oy.

I enjoy checking out other collections. Yeah, it's a total geek thing, but I'm always looking for new movies to check out. There's always stuff somebody owns that I had no idea was available.

I'm down to a handful (everything else was sold off or became part of the house's collection):

Happiness
Wonder Boys
Mulholland Drive
Taxi Driver
Rashomon
Seven Samurai
Season 1: Arrested Development

And I just ordered Firefly and Le Mans.

Is anyone aware of a good cabinet style storage container for DVDs? I started with stackable wood shelves but they don't make for an efficient use of space and much of the collection is now just sitting on the floor. I'd love to find a good cabinet, maybe with sliding shelves, designed to pack as many DVDs into as small a space as possible.

I do. Like stated by some other posters, I love seeing someone elses collection that has similar interests to mine for new film suggestions and dvd ideas.

You've got some great stuff there Hota. If it means anything to you, you're my favorite poster, even though you don't often. You always seem to make it into these collection/list threads (whether they've been made by me or not). I used to be $piffyBiff back on the previous forum incarnations, so I don't know if you remember me. I also wouldn't mind having my username changed back to that if possible *winks at Mike* :)

Heh, thanks for the compliments. Reading through your list right now, I must say, it's pretty impressive that you've rated and commented on a large chunk of the movies. We agree on quite a few things (Blade Runner, Existenz, King of New York) and you're pushing me into renting a few things that I've been on the fence about (Bringing Out the Dead, City of Lost Children). You should definitely watch that copy of Ghost Dog sometime!

I wish I had time to watch all of my DVDs I haven't seen yet, but whenever I get a chance to do so, I fall asleep...not because they're boring, but because my job tires me out so much. I've been plugging away at Ghost In The Shell 2 recently, but it's taken me 2 tries already to get 2/3rd's through. You would think that it'd be a sign for me to stop buying DVDs, but the addiction is too strong. :p
I haven't been keeping up on my comments on my DVDAf list, I've still got a bunch more to do...

I'm positive you'll love ColC; It's pure Terry Gilliam all the way through.

I'm picking up the Heat: SE along with the Donnie Darko: DC and Dr. Strangelove: SE this Tuesday...can't wait!

I also like Hotarubi. :D Though he should probably reconsider having 3000 Miles to Graceland appear at the top of his movie list.

Hota, you should consider purchasing OZ and Homicide: Life on the Street box sets if you liked The Shield and The Sopranos. I only recently started watching OZ but it's been pretty great....and I thought you were already a Homicide fan but I don't see the sets listed.

I actually considered rearraging the genre listings so that would show up further down. It's not a great movie (maybe not even a good one) but I do genuinely enjoy it and the Costner fan in me says that it stays in the collection. :lol

I've thought about picking up the OZ sets, but haven't had a good opportunity in a while. As for Homicide, I did have the first three sets, and while it's a phenominal show (until Andre Braugher left, at least), I couldn't see myself going back to watch them for quite a long time. Ended up selling 'em to a co-worker...

You won't re-watch Homicide, but you plan to go back to Sopranos S4 and X-Files S8-9? Did Kevin Costner do cameos in them or something?

Pretty much every single episode of OZ was written by Tom Fontana, so it's like Homicide at it's hardest....all the time.
