Anywho, I've apperently subscribed to a few rss feeds. All mostly useless. So uh, Help me fill it with useful ones. =)

what sort of reader do you guys use? I just installed SAGE for firefox, seems pretty good. is there a better way? It's the first one I saw. Also if anyone has a good entertainment feed (upcoming movies and the like)

I use bloglines with firefox plugin, but i can imagine there is something better

I've been adding feeds to google/ig lately, it's useful because it's not tied to home or work.

what is rss?
RSS (file format)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

RSS is a family of XML file formats for web syndication used by (amongst other things) news websites and weblogs. The abbreviation is used to refer to the following standards:

* Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91)
* RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9 and 1.0)
* Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)

The technology behind RSS allows you to subscribe to websites that have provided RSS feeds, these are typically sites that change or add content regularly. To use this technology you need to set up some type of aggregation service. Think of this aggregation service as your personal mailbox. You then have to subscribe to the sites that you want to get updates on. Unlike typical subscriptions to pulp-based newspapers and magazines, your RSS subscriptions are free, but they typically only give you a line or two of each article or post along with a link to the full article or post.

The RSS formats provide web content or summaries of web content together with links to the full versions of the content, and other meta-data. This information is delivered as an XML file called RSS feed, webfeed, RSS stream, or RSS channel. In addition to facilitating syndication, RSS allows a website's frequent readers to track updates on the site using a news aggregator.

it's like headlines for your browser. you get a feed of something that interests you, then it displays a headline for each topic, you click the ones you want.

You need a reader for it. I downloaded Sage firefox extension just now. should have adopted this earlier I think.

I'm using the one inside of opera. It's not a scrolling one though, uses the same window as emails. A little popup comes up at the bottom telling me there's new ones.

I use the Live BookMark option to just stick them on my Firefox Boomark Toolbar.

So basically, I post that code into my website and that part of my website will automatically updates everytime the RSS feeder updates its content ? Urrggg... I'm still not sure what RSS is. I would like to get some headlines from CNN and whatnot...

There's just no way I'm going to post all 40+ feeds as practically my entire Internet browsing usage revolves around RSS. For those who are wondering what RSS is, this is how Safari displays RSS feeds:

It varies from browser to browser (or program to program if RSS isn't integrated into your browser), but that's the general idea. You get headlines and a brief summary of stories from various sources and you can click on those summaries to go to the full story at the respective web site. I can't tell you how handy it is until you use it.

Funny you should mention this. I'm all about RSS after Google homepage customization. Another site you might want to go to if you don't have an RSS reader is http://www.gametab.com/ -> built in game news RSS browsing. Just make sure you add important news sites like IGN, GameDaily, Gamespy, Team Xbox, whatever you're into.
