Saw some pictures on Twitter of the dead gunman. Not sure if real or not.

According to the link 1 police officer died of his wounds and 1 of the attackers blew himself up. Apparently some information is saying another attacker was arrested and there are further attackers still on the run. There's also a hostage situation going on nearby.

If this is all confirmed it sounds like a pretty large planned attack.

They assume its a Terror Attack. While one attacker blew himself up, 5 others targetted the Bars and Restaurants. They were full because all the dumb people went there before the lockdown happens to enjoy some covid 19 cuddling.

its been confirmed a terror attack and no noone blew himself up as far as I can tell.

edit: the killed terrorist had a suicide vest on him and a bag full of magazines so kudos to the police guy who shot that piece of shit!

It's strange how different it is between European countries though. Sweden (where I live) and Germany have taken in the most immigrants per capita, but we have mostly been spared from these attacks.

This is not even remotely true.

First of all, there are no areas where the police won't go. Areas that have more issues than others, yes, but the police are certainly there.

Secondly, these issues are caused by criminal gangs fighting over drug turf and such, it has nothing to do with islamists/IS. This thread (and my previous post) is about terrorist attacks on the general population, the issues we have in some suburbs have nothing to do with that. These people are dumb criminals and a problem that needs to be dealt with, but they are not terrorists.

Wasn't there, dunno. Could have been like the spastic in germany, this synagogue was fully closed though, from what I hear there are two guards posted when it's open.

I'm not sure about Stadttempel specifically, to be honest, but the synagogues around here usually close at 7pm at the latest. Might be different for special occasions -- clearly not the case at that day.

Stadttempel seems to be special though insofar as it's a historic monument, and they're doing tourist guides there. Those usually end at 6 pm in general, as far as I know.

Edit: Maybe open hours are different for synagogues in Austria generally; I didn't take that possibility into account. Doubt it though.

Reports I read were referring to a dead straight 8pm start of the attack, might have been the same source.

Probably to discourage antagonization and violence, and to clear up conflicts when that doesn't work. Guards doing guard stuff.

I myself am not familiar with the synagogue but it seems to have some kind of special historical value and they offer tours, thus being higher frequented.
I wouldn't put it past them to be a bit more careful after the attack on a german synagogue last year, austria/germany being a bit inconsistent on the topic.
