Our office of 20 people just chipped in $2 each...

Do you do an office pool? We have a sign up sheet and scan in all of the tickets so we know what the numbers are and then store them in a safe.

Does your office have any different procedures?

No fuck my coworkers.

I don't play powerball nor any of the ticket ones just the scratchers. I might buy a ticket this time just for fun though.

Our office did just about the same thing.

We know we won't win, but so far the $2 price of entry for us has been worth the day dreaming of the "fuck you" we would give to our company if we won.

If no one wins it tonight I'll go pick up a ticket for Saturday's drawing.

Although with a number that high it's probably being won tonight so eh.

Maybe I'll just pitch in to the lesser looked at(at least right now) Mega Millions Friday drawing which is sitting at a pretty respectable $165 million.

If I live in one state and am still in another state on holiday, can I still buy a ticket here (in the state I do not officially reside in) and play?

I work for the gambling industry in a position where I evaluate the average return on a wager and I'm not buying a ticket.

I'd have to be pretty dumb to fall for my own thing.

I hope no one wins
unless it's me
. It's sure to be a record if it rolls and I love seeing the frenzy it sparks.

They definitely do not care where you reside. Not certain about US citizenship though, but I'd wager that does not matter either.

Wasn't there a guy outside of the US who bought a ticket through some service and ended up winning?

I live in Utah and we don't have the lottery. I have to get my tickets from Idaho if I want to play. If you win you have to claim the prize in the state where you win.

I've been tossing my $2 into the office pool the past week or so. If we win I will make a post on gaf about how I didn't win so no one will know!

Looks like they dont care, you just pay the highest tax rate.

"Should a non-US citizen win a lottery prize, they are subject to federal withholding taxes for non-US citizens, which is 30% of their winnings."

This is true. You don't want to be the poor schlub that didn't chip in...just in case.

Exactly. Can you even imagine? That would be the worst thing ever.

Same reason you should never ever have numbers that you play all the time. Imagine forgetting to play them one week and seeing them win. Quick pick all the way.

It's not in Nevada either. There's a gas station on the border of Cali and Nevada that generally has an hour long line to buy lottery tickets when the jackpot is this high. It always gets national media attention which is what Powerball/Mega Millions loves

at one in 175m to win a jackpot, it's actually statistically convenient (pre-tax) at 350m?
probably convenient post-tax post 500m.
Can't you buy 175m tickets?

I play all the time.

Let's do 20 years. See how I do.

edit: I made -$3982

Not bad! I've been playing for 726 years and have made $-138,845 in cold hard cash

Yes but you're still gambling because if there are multiple jackpot winners, it has to be split

I believe they added more numbers so the odds are even worse, 1 in 292 million
