Prey (2017) PC performance thread

I'm on a 6700K at 4.2Ghz and ram at the same speed. I didn't realize the OC on kaby lake made such a big difference.

I doubt it's your CPU. If a 7700k@4.8hz can do 200+ fps, your 6700k should not be a bottleneck at 120 fps.

They probably just benchmarked a less intensive area.

I'm glad I ordered this at the last second. It's a far better PC version than Dishonored 2!

I'd love a way to disable objective markers though.

Is this game 30fps on console? Great performance here.

Here is hoping Bethesda stops shoving idtech onto their studios.

This has to be one of the best-optimized AAA PC games of the generation? A 1060 and 480 getting over 100fps maxed out at 1080p? Nice.
The performance is nice, but given the quality of the visuals it's about what you'd expect. It looks okay and all, but nothing more than that.

Not ideal, but you can make your current objectives inactive to disable objective markers.

Otherwise, we may have to wait till they add the HUD options

I thought someone said in this thread it's running on cryengine 3, but according to Wikipedia, it's cryengine 5.

Man, if I get 4K 60FPS with my laptop GTX 1080 8GB, I don't know what to say. Too bad I won't be able to play for a while despite having purchased already, great optimization if those benchmarks hold.

I wasn't planning to buy this on release because of the possible iffy PC performance... what's the cheapest place to buy this currently?

It'll likely be held back somewhat by the laptop CPU (even an i7), although mobile 10 series cards are nearly the same as desktop ones in performance. Dropping a few settings would probably be enough to get you there for the most part.

Cryengine on PC has always been great. I wish they had used it for Dishonored 2 instead of id tech 5 which has had issues in literally every game that used it.

Jesus, launch day tomorrow and it's £27 on CDkeys? usually they bump it to around £40 at launch.

If it's still like that tomorrow... I might just have to nab it. Especially if some prospective work comes in

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned deactivating your active quest?

I know my 980ti will slay this, but will the stock 4670 be solid? Currently hooked up to a 1080p TV that only does 60hz so I'm not really worried.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but has anyone received their CDKeys code?

I pre-ordered back in March and have yet to receive anything

I ordered from them 3 days ago and got an email with the key right away. You should contact them.

I received my CDKeys code yesterday, about 10 seconds after I clicked the button to pay. No exaggeration. The site is advertising that keys are being sent at purchase.

If you haven't gotten yours, double check the email address you used, and check your junk mail folder. If that doesn't help, you should contact CDKeys. They have been great with customer service in the past for me.

The code is in the email you originally received when you ordered it in March. I lost mine and just sent a message to customer support to resend the email.

There should be a "download" link in the original confirmation email you received from them. That will take you to your key now that the game has released.

Thanks guys!

Found my code. Can't wait to jump in.

I'm like an hour in and so far loving it, but there's two graphical oddities detracting from the experience:

1. The motion blur makes every look so choppy

2. Wtf is going on with resolution/aliasing in this game? Like I get that the AA solution is temporal and therefore is bound to look better when the camera's still rather than moving, but goddamn is the aliasing distracting whenever panning the camera. Something needs to be done about that.

I don't know what happened. It was running fine this morning before work came back home to play and the game freezes every 5 seconds when I am moving around. Wasn't happening before.

Does anyone else notice stutter/hiccups while panning the camera quickly, or running down a corridor? It only happens with textures set to very high from what I could tell. My impressions so far are that this PC version is nowhere near as bad as Dishonored 2, but not at all as good as Doom either. The latter plays perfectly smooth 100% of the time.

1080ti @ 2,038Mhz + 382.05 drivers
7700K @ 4.5Ghz
32GB
SSD

EDIT: Rolling back to 381.89 eliminates the stutter.

Indeed. It looks pretty good standing still, but in motion the shader aliasing is extremely distracting like you said, even at 4K.

I can see why this game is like 20GB ( or just under). My first impressions of the visuals is it's average. Only played 25mins so this could change, but it's definitely not as impressive as other games in this genre, or even Dishonored 2. One section felt like it's a cross-gen game when I was on the chopper looking out to the city.

The PC requirements are very low. I'll update my impressions after I put more time in. Game is running very well, locked 60fps so far 980ti/3770k.

getting 80-90 fps with very high preset, borderless window w/ v sync turned off

r9 390, 16gb ddr4, i7 6700k

That's a pet peeve of mine -- I always try to be very deliberate when using either "port" or "version".

Same here, man. It's even more annoying when the game has fully embraced the customization and scalability that the PC offers.

But I digress, I can't wait to get my hands on this and play it already.

Great. I can't even launch this fucking game. I see the process in task manager but the game isn't opening. Christ if I have to reinstall this shit...

I'll roll back my drivers for now but, fuck.

Already had 3 crashes before even leaving my apartment.

Edit: Game runs great when not crashing tho. 150 FPS on max settings with GTX 1070 and i7 7700k

Not at that resolution it won't. I have a laptop CPU with the GTX 10 series and the game goes over 90 FPS at 1080p if I unlock the frame rate. It's up to his GPU to push the FPS at 4k resolution.

RBS / i7-7500U
GTX 1060 6GB (external enclosure)

1440p
High Preset
Reduced AA to SMAA 1x

45-75 fps unlocked. Game needs to even out performance (30fps is a pretty big swing, happening a lot) or get an adaptive vsync option. Too many hard locks to 30fps on the downswings to use vsync.

Not bad for launch day performance and drivers, still happy buying on PC vs PS4. Might try GFE optimized settings tomorrow.

I'm getting no shadows on everything. Thought it was just the game until I watched some video on YT. Nothing has shadows, including where there's a huge spotlight on the floor ( we've seen this in other games to show off some nice shadows)

I'm not sure about reflections as well, because I haven't seen them any on shiny surfaces. It was one of the first thing I noticed when I played.

My nvidia drivers are up to date. I just updated them after installing the game.

I wonder if anyone else is having this?

GTX980
Windows 10
Prey Drivers 382.05
2500K @ 4.5Ghz
1080P
All maxed with the second AA option.T2x or whatever. smooth 60 FPS.

Smooth sailing 60FPS and the IQ is great to me.

The 'best' AA setting is straight garbage. Awfully blurry that's for sure. I'm rockin SMAAx1, doesn't reduce the aliasing by much but it still looks clean when it can, instead of blurry.
