PS2 component cables

I'm planning on buying some component cables for my new PS2. Are Sony's 1st party cables of good quality, or would I be better off going with 3rd party cables (and if so, which brand)?

Is there a point in getting them?

Honestly, I think it'd be a lot cheaper to just get S-Video cables. I don't even think a lot of games support progressive scan.

Jak II
Jak III
GT 4
Tekken 5
and about 20 more. So granted, it's not a lot. But if i am not mistaken the PSTwo supports Pro Scan DVD playback and it makes some of the good games which do support pro-scan just look better.

Besides going for monstercable sets you back more if you ignore the first party cables but he asked for a good/better third party brand and monster is the best i can think of for PS2.. And depending on the quality of the tv.. component > s-video. Progressive scan or not..

I would go with cheaper third party component cables or even the Sony ones. Monster are a friggen ripoff and you'd be hard pressed to see the difference between cheap and expensive component cables.

I saw some 9.99 component cables at Bestbuy. Also, you can find cheapies all over ebay as well.

I'd say it's definitely worth it, it's not just about progessive scan either, I noticed a nice color boost with mine over svideo, even for non-progessive games. They can be had cheap so if your tv supports it, absolutely go for it.

I have the sony component cables, they seem to be decent enough. I can't remember how much I paid, but I think it was around $15 USD.

I bought the cheapies after buying the expensive Monster cables for the Xbox and Nintendo's expensive components.. Buy the cheapies.

I have the official Sony and I noticed a big difference, even on a TV that doesn't support progressive scan. I couldn't tell you how they compare to other third party cables, but they were definitely worth buying.

I need to pick up some component cables as well. I think I'll get the Mad Catz ones that are $15 and include cables for both PS2 and Xbox..

That's the one I got...the visuals do look better for both machines on my 27 inch JVC iArt, though it's hard to quantify the improvement. Even WE7 got a boost.

Monster is *totally* worth it if you have the cash.

If not, get Sony component cables. DO NOT get third party crap.

Trust me on this one.

I recently picked up the MadCatz Xbox/PS2 component cables and I dont noticed a difference between those and the official Xbox cables. The only thing I want to find out is which games support progressive scan for Xbox and PS2. Anyone mind compiling a list of the games that do?
