PS3 - Fatal Inertia (Koei launch title)

why is Omega Force wasting their time on this when they should be workign on PS3 versions of Dynasty Warriors (:O) and Winback!?!

First thing that popped in my head, too.

Of course Omega Force may be much bigger now than in the past. Next Gen Dynasty Warriors get!

Waste of time for KOEI. It's a racing game because it was cheaper to develop a racer than most any other genre, in terms of man hours and programming.

Here you go..hard to tell if realtime or not. Looks like a mix:

Doesn't look like a waste of time to me, but good on you for jumping to conclusions. Right after spending time lecturing others not to do it wrt the Rev controller.

You really think so? Am I the only one kinda digging how this looks? Maybe its my inner F-Zero/Wipeout fanboy talking.

One over on B3D translated a bit of the article...

"According to this article it gets assist of SCE for physics implementation. Physics plays a big part in game play, like throwing destructable objects onto other hoverships, and using a hook weapon to turn around, etc."

Well, its on my radar now at least.

Interesting...I wouldn't underestimate Omega Force/SCE collaboration. It's nice to see that even the early PS3 titles like MGS4 and Fatal Inertia are concentrating on physics...

Pictures don't look too hot but if it is 60FPS then I imagine it could be great. Man that makes me think of a next gen wipeout on PS3 *makes mess in his pants*

Agreed, who cares about DW when we can get the spiritual successor to Quantum Redshift? What's this about Spiderman-alike swingying?

I may be more interested in this title if I could see the pics. :(

Omega Force rocks. I will more than likely buy this game based off of their awesomeness alone.

Not to start a fight, but I've read some comments that 99 Nights is the true next gen version of Dynasty Warriors and that Koei should take notes. 99 Nights looks all right as a Dynasty Warriors rip off game, and I'll probably get it, but I expect the masters of the genre to completey dominate 99 Nights.

Interesting facts:

-The game's been in development since February
-Omega Force/Koei Canada expect to sell million copies worldwide
-current build physics are relatively simple
-but that is going to change in a major way by the PS3's JP launch
-SCE/Omega Force are collaborating on the physics part
-Fatal Inertia is a JP PS3 launch game.

A futuristic racing game selling millions? I doubt it.

Some of the real time footage looked pretty rough, especially the destructible geometry, but you can see the potential there. Once they optimize this thing for the SPEs and the SCE physics collaboration gets going it could ramp up in a big way. The trailer uses real time assets so if they get it up to that par I think the finished product will look great. Some of the particle fx are insane, check out how the water convincingly splashes and breaks apart with individual droplets when the hovercraft wipeouts over the river. The smoke/debris from the explosion had amazingly realistic density as well.
