PS5 and Xbox Series X Potential Prices Revealed By Analyst
- April 17, 2020 04:48 pm EDT
How much will the PS5 and Xbox Series X cost? Unfortunately, we don't know. At the moment of publishing, neither Sony or Microsoft have revealed a price point for either of their respective consoles, however, both have suggested they could come with a premium price tag. As a result, all we have right now is speculation. Across the Internet, both PlayStation and Xbox fans have been speculating over this very question for months. In addition to fans of both brands, analysts and investment firms are really starting to weigh in on this pertinent question.

According to new a report from market-leading data and analytics firm Ampere Analysis, the PS5 and Xbox Series X will cost in the ballpark of $450 to $500. Further, the firm warns that both consoles may be in trouble at launch because there's a good chance both will launch right in the middle of a global economic recession born out of the coronavirus pandemic.

Making matters worse, the firm warns that consumer-friendly features paired with many cross-generational games for the first couple of years may also slow the adoption rate of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

If the PS5 launches at $450, it will actually be cheaper than the PS4, which launched at $400. How? Because of inflation. Meanwhile, if it launches at $500, it will be a bit more pricey, but not that much more, again, when you take into consideration inflation. Meanwhile, even if the Xbox Series X launches at $500, it will be cheaper in today's market than the Xbox One was in 2013's market.

That all said, all of this information should be taken with a grain of salt. Nothing here is official information. However, firms like this are paid for their analysis, so there's more to the prediction than the average prediction you may find on the Internet about how much each console will cost.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are currently scheduled to drop sometime this holiday season. However, will they be worth the upgrade? Yes, but maybe not at launch. You can keep up with pre-order info on the PS5 here and the Xbox Series X here.

As always, feel free to drop a comment or four with your thoughts and hot takes letting us know what you think. How much will the PS5 and Xbox Series X cost?

"Potential." All that needs to be said. Nothing is revealed, it's all guess-work. Most people are assuming $500-$600.

Comicbook are literally fucking imbeciles.

They said the PS5 was supposed to launch with a DSLR camera.
ComicBook needs to be a banned site. They’re utterly abhorrent and the most buzzfeed of all video game news.

I’m pretty sure anyone with half a brain could have wrote this article. It’s not even a discussion worth having.

Im pretty sure at this point they will both come in at 499.00 I would have preferred 399.00, but what’s a hundred bucks for all the years of value they will (hopefully) offer.

Report me if I continue to console war
I think sony will go with $499, include a few free digital games, like TLOU2 and a smaller PS5 launch title and 6 months PS+.
Xbox would also do $499 with 3 to 6 months game pass ultimate.

Gamers shouldn't believe everything these analysts say, gamers are skeptical because rumors are miss information factories.

They're supposed to be better than this, but, apparently aren't.

No, that quote is correct.

Comicbook, being literal half heads, thought that the unrelated DSLR was supposed to be launching with the PS5.

I honestly am intrigued by Playstation more. But Halo and Gears have been amazing in the past, it would be well worth it if Halo alone makes a statement with incredible gameplay and online, like the old Halo 2 and Halo 3 days

But playstation’s PS Now has the better library imo. Really want to replay and beat SotC and play The Last Guardian for the first time

I've seen random posts on GAF from new members with more thought and care than that... article.

$450-500? Wow. Knows inflation is a thing? Damn, I'm blown away by the insight...

It is just silly Sony has zero need for a price war or secrecy. They could be 50-100 dollars more and still win. They are just being cute with the whole reveal to feel more important than they are. The og ps4 crew set this unstoppable train up and it pisses ryan off. He wants his credit and the og team to get zero credit like he is the sole reason for PS5 success egomaniac.

Probably, but let's not forget PS3 and "Arrogant Sony". I remember videos edited with Kaz Hirai exclaiming "599 US dollars!" with quick cuts to slow Gran Turismo cars and grazing rhinos like it was yesterday. Sony needs to not repeat that kind of debacle to avoid massive damage to its reputation.
