PSM: Tekken Tag 2 to launch alongside PS3

From the PULSE section:

"Back at E3, Namco revealed that they were working on a new Tekken game for PS3. While it would seem pretty much a given that this would be Tekken 6, I've also heard through the developer grapevine that it will, in fact, be a PS3-only-follow-up to Tekken Tag Tournament and will launch alongside the system in Japan and the U.S. We'll definitely keep you keyed in as we hear more!"
Now this is a sequel I've been waiting for :D

yeah, i expect the first ps3 tekken to be tag 2 or an enhanced version of dark resurrection. i'm not a big tekken fan, but with vf5 on inferior hardware and doa4 underperforming, it should be the first really next-gen fighting game.

ONLINE?!?! I think that's pretty much essential and inexcusable at this point. I expect this game to look way better than VF5, go watch the vid again and pay attention to Lion's hair and how pasted on it looks. Needless to say it will make DOA4 look ancient. I mean there's only 2 characters on screen and they have all that power, the characters and BGs should be damn near photorealistic and both don't really look it. Even with TTT2's possible 4 characters on screen Namco is more than competent, I expect to be impressed. Also PSM still hasn't come through on their other PS3 rumors no matter how plausible they sound so who knows if this one will either.

Isn't this the issue that's supposed to have a whole bunch of other new info/rumors about the PS3?

That was last month's issue. "PlayStation 3 Uncovered!" was the name of the article with the MGS4 and GTA4 info.

YEEEESSSSSSSS!!! TTT is my favorite Tekken...by far. Sorry, but while the tag element may have been an afterthought, I thought it worked extremely well for the game. Not sure if it went through revisions in the arcade, but the PS2 version of the game kicked all sorts of ass. TTT2 was my prediction, and I'm hoping PSM is right. Now, can we get Tekken Bowl 2 (which kicked Tekkenball's ass) and a revamped Tekken Force mode with it? I want the whole kit and kaboodle. I know Tekken Force mode was much maligned, but I really dug it for what it was worth. I just think they could have really worked on the controls a lot more. I really, REALLY want some screens of this game. They've got to have something completed at this point *drools*. PEACE.

I like this news, but drohne's post got me thinking of VF5 -- I really hope that when it comes to the PS3 it's adjusted to play to the machine's strengths. It could definitely look better than what we've seen so far.

I played the hell out of tekken tag tournament & ridge racer V... My PS2 at launch was basically a namco player.

I can't wait to see how this game turns out... here's hoping it's worth it.

Com'on Namco, give us the same generation gap we see there between Tekken 5 and Tekken Tag 2!

Saw this coming a mile away. It'll be hot for sure. TT was by far the best PS2 launce game.

I don't care if VF5 looks better on the PS3 ass long as it comes!! VF4 was the most intelligent fighting game ever. I just hope they balance it out a litttle better.

Hopefully they include Lili since it looks like they're going to go from T5 PS2 to TTT2 PS3.
preach on brother

+1 PS3.

DOA 4 on the 360 looks like utter shit.

Tag on PS2 came before the regular Tekken so this is no real surprise.

Expecting SEGA to re-model the game just for the PS3 rev is a liitle bit unrealistic, methinks. Just be happy if it ends up looking the same as the arcade.

Sweet, Tekken Tag was awesome. I hope they include a new tekken bowl (greatest tekken subgame by far).

Even though TTT on PS2 was ported from a System 12 game, they did a great job with the modeling and the backgrounds and the visuals have aged very well. I'm not sure this will be as amazing as it could if they built it from the ground up, but they've already got a good track record of upgrading games from previous generation hardware with TTT and Soul Calibur, so this should look pretty damn good.

I just wonder how they'll handle the tag option for the walled in environments. Tagging out when the opponent has you backed into a corner would be kinda cheap.

This is what they'd be upgrading over in the current gen

Considering how good NAMCO's modelers are and how good models in adventure games are looking next gen there should be a huge jump over T5DR's models.

I totally missed the news, but what hardware was VF5 reported to be running on? Model 3? I haven't seen pics or info for it.

Sweet, another Tekken title to pick up a two years later for $4.

(I like them fine, just don't have them that high on my priority list...)

It's sega's new arcade board. Can't remember the name right off. Model 3? If VF5 was on model 3 that would be.....well, weird, to say the least.

Lindbergh arcade board which has an nVidia 6800 GPU, 1GB of 3200 RAM (I think), and a 3.2 GHz processor (I think)

It's easily outclassed by the new consoles, so they've got no excuse not to do perfect ports this time. An upgrade would be even better, but I'm not expecting it.

Yeah if they take Tekken 5's gameplay, throw the tag feature back in, and have models on par with the teaser video it'll probably be my first PS3 software purchase.

Virtua Fighter = Model 1 board Arcade
Virtua Fighter Remix = STV board Arcade
Virtua Fighter 2 = Model 2 board Arcade
Virtua Fighter 3 = Model 3 board Arcade
Virtua Fighter 3TB = Model 3 board Arcade
Virtua Fighter 4 = Naomi 2 board Arcade
Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution = Naomi 2 board Arcade
Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned = Naomi 2 board Arcade
Virtua Fighter 5 = Lindbergh board Arcade

Great news if true. I didn't get a chance to own Tekken Tag Tournament on the PS2 (too lazy to search for a non-GH copy in good condition), so I'll snap this up for sure if it's true.

Whether this is true or not, I wouldn't expect Namco to add any online play. Just adding online play could hurt Namco financially e.g. hurt thier profiting arcade business.

TTT2 is definately better news than Tekken 6. More characters in a fighting game is always a good thing for me.

What the fuck are they doing to Jin's character design anway? By Tekken 8, he'll be a black dude named G-Dawg Masta X.
