There isn't really much to go on from those quotes.
One thing though, it seems to confirm Barbarian's (B3D) words on final kit delivered.

We would've heard about it before now because some Sony rep would've spilled the beans. I'll be hard pressed if an NDA doesn't get broken if this is to be "big news".
And no this is not just a blunt Xbot talking, Sony "tried" to promise us this lie on the PS2. Anyone remember?

The first console maker that lets you use a pc or a console as a dedicated server gets my vote for best online service. A well run server takes away all the cheaters and assholes from the experience.

"They have an online service" will soon become 'they have an online service better than XBL and it's free!"
Good luck to sony with it. A good online service will be awesome, and if they can stop us getting raped on online gaming costs here in Japan (880 yen for Dirge! MH2 just announced at 980 yen...) seems like the standard charge PER GAME is around $8 PER MONTH.... i cannot see this pricing stop for us.

gofreak said:You won't need two screens. You can pop it open in a sub-screen OR use a second screen if you wish, Chatani actually said this explicitly in a post-E3 interview.
The same is undoubtedly true for any functionality that can be put onto the second screen.

SolidSnakex said:Sony isn't acting Sony like? In what way? They're being quiet while others continue hyping their system. That is Sony.

Oh I believe there will be an online plan. They should have one. I just think it will be on a very, very, very tiny scale that really no one will care about.

CamHostage said:Can already host on your own in some games, is that what you're talking about? You can set aside a host in SW Battlefront, although I've rarely seen that done.
I'm curious, how well a PS2 would serve as a PS3 game host? It's 32mb of RAM (?) and no HDD, but will game hosting of P2P connections for a set group rely on big hardware? (I honestly don't know, just putting it out there...) Everybody's PS2s will become closet bricks as soon as PS3 ships anyway, it'd be a very small machine to keep on your rack as a host, plus Sony wouldn't have a security problem with talking to the machine since they control it (PCs might make them nervous), the PS2-to-PS3/PSP server software could be released by the company or even by Sony (if they could do a one-game-fits-all solution) on a printed PS2 disc without some homebrew hack and with user-friendly instructions, they could even exchange memory cards or USB if there was anything complicated to setting it up and managing it ... Is there any potential there?

But I hope they have a great online system. Online gaming has become one of the biggest factors in my purchasing decisions.

FrenchMovieTheme said:if SonyOnline is free, the service will be shitty. i'm not exactly swimming in cash in my life, but i'd prefer to pay $5 a month and have a decent online structure rather than have the shitty features that would accompany a free service.
But XBL Silver membership on the 360 already renders 90-95% of what was locked behind traditional Xbox Live membership free already. The only thing that you're paying for now is the ability to actually play the games online, which really shouldn't be the case if there isn't a MS hosted server involved for the game sessions.Willy Wanka said:It's not 100% that a free service would be shit but I feel like you and would rather pay a nominal fee for a quality service than put up with anything like PS2 online again.
