PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

Weird. I was able to access my account and remove my CC info on my PS3 without any issue. The PS4, not so much. But I'm hoping that if it's removed from PSN through my PS3, it's removed from everything related to PSN. Please tell me that's the case.

Security cannot stop DDoS. It's brute force and amateur.

Pretty much. In simplicity all a Distributed Denial of Service attack really is is a bunch of linked computers or a botnet doing a constant and repeated ping of an IP address all at the same time.

Similarly when a big game comes out with an online component as it's major selling point and you have hundreds of thousands of people trying to hit access server all at once and no one can get access because of the server not being able to handle the mass incoming connections, that indirectly has the same effect as a DDoS.

It's basically flooding the server with an overload of IP addresses trying to connect all at once and too much for the server to handle. That is a DDoS in a nutshell.

50 % = fail ?

My school considered going above 50 % meant you pass.
Sure if you only scored 55 we would call that here "made it over the ditch but with wet feet" But you did pass.

55 meant you failed when I was in school (US of motherfuckin A). You had to have a 70.

She's wrong.

No, it's "jif". this is the canonical way of saying it, because that's what the creator of the gif says is the right way of saying it.

While accepting a lifetime achievement award for his creation in 2013, Wilhite wasn't shy about setting the record straight with a projection speech that set the Internet ablaze: "It's pronounced JIF, not GIF."

Wilhite developed the GIF in 1987 while he was working at CompuServe, the nation’s first major online service. The company wanted a way to show color weather maps, but didn’t want it to take up too much bandwidth for dial-up connections, according to the New York Times. Instead, he wanted to program an animated image that would convey the same message. The first GIF he ever made was a picture of an airplane.

The GIF celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2012, the same year GIF was crowned "Word of the Year" by the Oxford American Dictionary – which, by the way, accepts both pronunciations.

So technically, you can say it however you’d like, but to quote Wilhite, remember: Choosy programmers choose GIF.

XBL is fine on my end. Was playing BF4 now starting Titanfall to see if Azure is affected at all.

edit: all fine after a match of pilot hunter

Not that I believe this, but it really is a bit odd. MS has the obligation of being better prepared for this than Sony, but they shouldn't be invincible. Sony is constantly getting hammered and I never noticed a huge scandal on MS' part. Are their defenses really that much better?

The past gen I could understand, the 360 was super popular and Sony was the bad guy (599, removing linux, etc). This gen MS is the one worthy of hate (even though they are trying their best to clean up their image, I'll give them that). So why are "hackers" still so obcessed with Sony and not with MS? The latter are good, but not invincible: how come we never see them getting hacked? It's odd.

Again, I'm not saying this is a conspiracy on MS part. Just find it very odd that they always seem to waltz through this kinda shit like it's nobody's business.
Is it because of MS having a lot of data centers? I wonder this myself

wait.....6.5? off topic but....holy hell ....i know that game is decent...it's a very beautiful game....story was meh....but a 6.5 for that game is wayyyy to harsh
that's like RIDE TO HELL ,POSTAL 3 level of rating O_o

I've read a lot of crazy things in this thread, but the concept of RtH being anywhere near a 6.5 is by far the most unbelievable thing I've seen so far.

Yes, I didn't enjoy inFamous: Second Son, but I fell in love with the FFXIV: A Realm Reborn PS4 version, Resogun, and The Last of Us Remastered.

Huh, that seems reasonable, I bet your review of SS reflects on that reasonableness, let's take a look, from the start:

“inFamous: Second Son represents a type of game that I’ve been weary of heading into the new generation of consoles; a game that de-emphasizes gameplay in hopes that its captivating beauty is enough to woo you.”

...What a crock of shit.

But if you cross something out, you put a "X" through it

the symbols on the sony remote are not letters, so it's not the letter "x," it's a cross symbol.
But the guy who made it said it is x like the letter.
These things are open to interpretation, but IMO they should be said as they were intended, which means people who say cross are wrong (and I've never actually heard someone say it in person).

Well shit. This guy is really angry, no prisoners style.

If MS is under attack as well, could this mean the end of the Great Console War? Imagine if both companies decide to join forces and armies under the same banner to fight injustice and ddosers all around the world, then true peace may be achieved. Let's put our differences aside, and be disconnected, together.

I'm assuming he's talking about the PlayStation buttons, so it's "X" (Ecks) and not cross.

No problems with live over here btw.
My Live just went back up, I'm guessing Microsoft must be somewhat harder to take down.

While we're waiting let's play spot the odd ones out in the following;

Circle, Triangle, X, Square

A, B, Cross, Y

Circle, Triangle, Cross, Square

A, B, X, Y

/Minds blown :-P

Which is why I find it funny that people will say Destiny will become Sony's own DDoS but forget the fact that the beta attracted over 4.5 million gamers without any issues.

DDoS can easily be hundreds of millions of small 'attacks' on a database so it just goes into a system overload.

It doesn't really say much, but Son'y have just posted an update on the EU PS Blog: http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/08/24/playstation-network-update/

Lke other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.

Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.

We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hard to tell given the current conversation, but did you guys hear Sony told Game Informer the FBI are involved, and they have no additional comment?
