PSP: new infected screens"not impressive"

bable translation:
The town of New York is once again touched by a catastrophe in Infected. The population was mysteriously transformed into zombie. Apparently a virus would have contaminated all the citizens except the Stevens officer. This man of law has in his blood an immunity against the contamination. Infected is thus a play of shooting where our cartouches will be consisted of the blood of Stevens in order to disinfect the population. It will be possible to play several, thanks to the multi mode, and a classification will be placed at the disposal of the players thus showing the number of people that they infected. Infected is waited this year exclusively on PSP. Here 4 new images.

Even the better looking PSP games in general look worse the closer you look at them. Ridge Racer has spotty texturing and MGA has tons of dithering, for example. I imagine we're in for a lot of mediocre looking stuff down the line.

New? I've seen all these posted here at least a month ago.

That goes for pretty much every game ever made. As soon as you start (over)analyzing it's graphics, things fall apart.

You really don't have to look close to spot the dithering in MGA.

Infected's never looked that great to me. The textures and visual style of the game just don't do it for me.

Agreed. I've always thought this game looked like arse.

How jaded have we all become when we can play games this good looking on a handheld and still be disappointed? I am nothing but impressed, anyone who is not impressed was expecting too much.

I generally agree with you... except for that last sentence.... Trying to join Speevy eh? On a large screen RR would look horrible... but that's not the point, it looks very good for the screen it is on.

No dude, Unison hates PSP and DS equally.

A total gaming badass.

heh, that really does look like it is suited for a stylus style of gameplay.

I think the graphics are pretty good, I want to see what it looks like in motion.

A lot of companies seem to put zero effort into their handheld games. I wonder if that trend is going to continue on PSP?

No doodz he is waiting for the GAMEBOY EVOLUTION! AM I RIGHT? Lol

edit: this game looks like crap

Pfft. Gizmondo is where it's at. Oh you'll all see. You'll be all like "PSP what, I totally got the GPS working, yo".

My point was more that any of these handheld games is going to look bad in screens unless they've been are gussied up in Photoshop or captured at a higher resolution than the PSP can display. They simply won't ever look as good as console games & they'll have plenty of obvious flaws.

If Ridge Racer & Wipeout are the best looking launch titles, devs have a long way to go, imo...

And this game still looks like crap.

You are now Capt. Obvious... congrats!

... and I guess the real, unstated point is that graphics whoredom has no place on handhelds in the first place, because when you get right down to it, nothing looks impressive on them.

Okay, now back to GoW you go...

So console games aren't impressive either right? You can always find PC games with more polys, higher resolutions ect.

Marconelly, I'm surprised you didn't catch this troll either.

Impressive as in bleeding edge graphics? Who expected that from the PSP? Who turned one of these on expecting it to blow away all other consoles/computers? Those games look better than any of us should have dreamt to expect on a HH in this generation. We have a HH that can make graphics comparable to the current batch of home consoles! We should all be thanking whatever god(s) we pray to..

Wow, now I realize that PSP graphics are essentially equivilent to DS (or GBA, even) graphics!

OTOH, I've been defending the DS against grpahics bashers as well. I guess that makes me the anti-Unison.

Plz, we don't need the PSP vs DS debate in every damn DS or PSP thread. I think the game looks pretty good, but not really interesting (for me).

What troll is that? The PSP might be different, but look at the GBA's library. It has some awesome games as I am sure the PSP will also have, but it is always full of a ton of quickly made licensed crap too.

Exactly, show us some examples of impressive so we know what you're measuring against. :)

Did you guys notice the PSP launch thread has exceeded 100,000 page views?... Damn GAF rocks :D

If you're going to be a graphics whore, you pretty much have to stay on the cutting edge...

Aww pishaw, the PSP could do that... Just over clock it to 3ghz and use that 1 gig pro duo as ram. Battery should last long enough for the game to load anyway. :)

Unison, I have ye tto hear *anybody* claim PSP graphics are cutting edge. Who exaclt yare you trying to deflate? Or are you, yourself a grahphics whore? In which case, why bother with DS/PSP threads at all?

I'm just annoyed by the consistent assertion that I should be amazed by PSP graphics (or disappointed when a game looks as bad as Infected). They are good, for a handheld, and nothing more.

That's like saying DS screenshots are good... for a handheld.. or certain PS2 shots are good.. for the PS2.. of certain Xbox shots... for the Xbox... or PC shots, etc.... uh that's just naturally assumed... some statements you don't need to quantify.

Even still, I can't say that I even think Ridge Racer or Wipeout looks without that "for a handheld" qualification. Even the best looking PSP games are homely enough that they'd be laughed at on any current console.

So what? You still aren't going to find another portable right now that gives you the same power as the PSP. That's why its impressive. To even have a portable that's even good enough to be compared to a current gen of console gaming is really impressive considering where we were in that market.

In that respect... and graphically I'd put RR on the PSP at the RRV on the PS2 level... a launch title that looks nice in many respect, but doesn't have some of the nuances that come from working with the platform enough to smooth out some of the ruff spots... doesn't change the fact that it still plays slick as hell.
