PSP price/autonomy/launch date/line up ?

That was one hell of a stunt on Sony's part to devote that much floorspace for a PSP blowout, and not make any final announcements at the show.. who knows how many of the playable-at-TGS games are close to being finished.

I didn't follow every piece of news about TGS and PSP but is any software almost 100% complete ?

Anyway with the release of the Pstwo in November, I see Sony delaying the PSP in march 2005. ( more games + producing price going down )

is it even ready for launch this year? I mean TGS is here and now and in terms of software... shown...

seriously.

they are in fucking trouble. Meh meh all around. JohnTV, what do you think?!

well according to a news article they implied they wont be doing PSP this year for christmas. PSTwo will be where they will be concentrating efforts on apparently.

I say Dec. 3, 2004 (Japan), 34,980 yen.

That day with RR as a launch title would definately bring back PS1 JPN launch memories (which cost more than that at launch didn't it, can't remember now)

don't worry, you'll be kept busy by the loads of DS content shown lately.

According to gamefront.de Sony wanted to communicate PSP's price at the 21 September conference but had a last second change of idea because of Nintendo announcing DS price point right before.Too bad that in the same time SCE Germany was holding an other conference/meeting where Manfred Gerdes the managing director revealed the intended price of 33.000 yen.
I suppose that Sony is revising their plans and the plot thickens :D

That's great. So we can expect a figure lower than 33,000 Yen for Japan. At worst it will be 33,000 if they deem the DS to be not much of a threat.

its funny though cause nintendo put sony in a tight spot. Does anyone thinkt hat 100,000 yen image was leaked on purpose? It's starting to look more and more like it was. If sony drops their price, so does nintendo.

It's strange how the GBA is more expensive in Japan than in the US, yet the DS is cheaper in Japan (for that matter, pretty much every videogame system is more expensive in Japan than the US). Dropping its price any lower, and it'll be too close to the GBA's.

100,000 yen is like $1000...are they raising the price over 6x higher :P

seriously though a 10,000 yen DS means +1 sale to me

found these PSP comments on 1up. He also wrote some other stuff of interest.http://egmshane.1up.com/

PSP: Sony finally..at long last... has revealed a lineup of playable games for its upcoming portable. Some of them are great, like Metal Gear Acid, Ridge Racer, and Hot Shots Golf. Sadly, a lot of others are merely OK, and a large chunk of the titles here fell into the 'puzzle or board game' category. Not really the kind of stuff to show off the system's power. Personally, I'm kind of shocked by the PSP's analog stick. I didn't get to hold it at E3, so this was my first experience with the thing... and it's not what I expected. The little analog nub isn't like a Dual Shock stick. It self-centers really quickly, and the motion it offers just feels strangely different. It was really easy to oversteer in racing games, and action titles didn't feel very precise either (Konami's otherwise awesome Coded Arms felt weird w/ the little analog stick). I've got a theory about this, though: I think that the developers were maybe coding for dev. hardware that used a Dual Shock, so they didn't really calibrate this for the more sensitive PSP stick. Hopefully, the control will feel tighter in the final versions of these games.

1) first time I've read someone talk about the a.stick

2) first time I read someone describe the Konami FS as "awesome"

I doubt Nintendo can drop DS's price any lower for the time being.

They could if they hiked the game prices up from $30 - $40 to $50. If fact, that may be exactly what Sony plans on doing to compete with the DS, a $250 PSP with $50 games and $40 dollar memory cards. Take a loss on the hardware and gain the perception of a lower price point, while still making some of that money back with the expectation that every PSP purchase will be with a memory stick and at least one game.

you wont be able to fool people with the memory card and game prices. Its taken into account. One of the most attractive reasons for buying an xbox.

Man, talk about a slow turnaround on the karmic payback for them pulling a similar stunt on the Saturn.

:lol :lol

I thought it was pretty obvious that Sony clammed up about the PSP prcing because of the Nintendo announcement. Except that their guy in Germany didn't get the memo and went ahead and dislcosed what was going to be the pricing.

Nintendo actually did Sony a pretty big favor by rushing out their announcement. They should have just let Sony announce their 33,000 Yen price, and then cut them off at the knees by coming at less than half that much. Instead, Sony now has time to go back and reassess their strategy, cut a couple of features, and lower the price.
