PSP SPACE INVADERS - A SPECIAL NASTY SURPRISE....

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
it's fucking starting....

"The game could not be started.
To start , you must update the system software"

Install v1.50 drivers?

FUCK YOU SONY!
;)

Just wait, if v1.51 was released there must be some sort of flaw with it and hopefully someone can exploit it to allow it to play emulators, and hey if they never get emus running on anything past 1.00V time to go get a second PSP for gaming :P

yup - will buy a second PSP tomorrow.
not putting a disk in this drive from this point on.

Just to clarify, the v1.50 drivers are shipped on the disk.

yes... where is the guy that said

"all sony updates are optional" ??

i guess it's still true - as long as you don't mind NOT playing any of the games from this point forward!!!

worried that the next releases will be "oh, you had v1.0 drivers! we just updated them for you!" - so fuck it, second PSP tomorrow.

"eh, Space Invaders PSP is crap, but you know new games from here on out will all have it."

i'm sure it is but

AKKANBADER ISN'T!!!!!

The inevitability is that all new games will have this update. It's okay to avoid Space Invaders but there are some STUPID GOOD GAMES COMING SOON.

ARSE.

WHY DID THESE MOTHER FUCKERS DO THIS TO ME , WHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

Oh boy! The fun has finally started! Now where's that guy that said there's no way Sony could do this? :lol

didn't take long :P

Still, this is dumb. Assuming that updating your firmware still requires you to plug into AC power, means you can't buy a game and play it before going home. What about picking up a game at the airport, or before a trip?

Not very portable - bad Sony.

Wonder if its worth me buying another Japanese unit? If I wait, the standard retail units will be 1.50 / 1.51. But then the emulators may never take off fully, or they may work on 1.50 software or exploits....

edit:
no PSU required

Sure?

I love the way a firmware upgrade used to require the PSU being plugged in, now Sony is just "Oh, fuck it, just go ahead and upgrade now. No, really, NOW. ...UPGRADING!!"

At least it asked you, I fully expect future games to auto-patch on bootup if battery life > certain value.

assuming updates have to work with older games, would an exploit like the wipeout one be relatively immune from such Sony tampering?

All the USA released PSPs were 1.50 units, right?

Wouldn't they already be useless as far as hacking goes, at the moment? I thought it was only 1.0 units that could run code... or am I hopelessly confused?

I would laugh my ass off if an old game stops working after you install the update. Look what happened to Reiselied on the PS2.

But didn't Sony make Konami (and a few other developers) apologize for it themselves and reissue updated versions on the market? :lol

No, you're not hopelessly confused, but people are claiming that since the changelog for 1.51 mentions some vague "security update" there must be a hole in 1.50. I think it's a pretty big assumption to say that this hole (whatever it turns out to be) can be exploited for homebrew software; it could just be some sort of crash bug, which I doubt would be terribly useful. My PSP came with 1.50 already installed (although it's not a US one) so I figured "what the heck" and updated. It was a useful test of my wireless setup, at any rate.

hold on a bit. maybe there wont be other emus than the alpha gameboy emu with no sound. why rush and get a second PSP before other emus appear.

you need to act quick, when/if the emulation picks up, these old psp's will be long gone and maybe worth more(?).

Have there been any other game releases since the JP 1.5 update became available that required this?

I guess this is the downside to allowing devs to rely on OS services to substitute for some of the code they normally would have written themselves.

there's the screen, in all it's glory....

... that's gonna be AFTER i get a new PSP before i can tell you! ;)

I'm taking no chances, no more new games on the old PSP. That's now the EMU STATIONZ!

Agh, I knew it :(

This sucks hard, I never expected it that soon. However I can still buy Vampire Chronicles, Lumines, Wipeout and Lumines before I have to buy a more recent game, so I can wait :P

I´m not going to refuse to play GB Battletoads in a tiny screen on black & white :P

Damn, PSP sales is gonna add another mil or double in the future when there's hacked version of firmware out. :lol I think it's intentional they released firmware with that loophole!

Now here's a dilemma: do I buy a new PSP in Japan or do I buy a new PSP in the US?
I'm waiting a while because:
1. There's nothing that good out before Tenchi no Mon (July).
2. They could announce a new colour.
3. They could announce a new model!
4. They could drop the price.
5. They could change their mind about this dumbass update thing.

I'm still amazed by the "HOW DARE SONY MAKE US UPDATE" attitude.

What did you guys think Sony was going to do? How is it unjust or unfair for them to force updates upon you?

Hopefully upcoming US games won't bother with this check.

When new colours come out I think I'll be getting a second PSP though.

haha, buying 2 Lumines would be worth it

it could be worse, it could update it automatically using the firmware already on the disc
