PSP System Software 1.52 Released (JP)

This one sends out an electric shock impulse to your brain if you even think about running an emulator on your PSP.
I hope that would remove the regret of installing 1.5 in the first place...

well, according to super awesome internet translation technology

# [ Music ] of the home menu it It came to be able to reproduce UMD(R) MUSIC.
# The security of the system software was strengthened.

and according to someone else

It wasn't able to do that so far?

I'm pretty sure it was, after all, the US demo disc has music section and it works fine.

Hmmm... yeah, I think you are right. I don't have that UMD with me anymore so I cannot check it out.

Edit: BTW, are Music UMDs already available?

An open letter to SCE

I think that by putting security patches in the software, you will be discouraging a sizable portion (not overwhelming) of your early adopters from purchasing new software titles. I mean there will be people trying to circumvent the patches (see JackFrost's post) by purchasing the games, but then you just make it easier for those with less moral integrity to just download the entire ISO. If you want to fight the security of people stealing the games, rather than locking out the mod/emulator community, try enhancing the security on the actual UMD.

I would guess you've got a few thousand people max that wouldn't buy a game because they want to do emulation. You think Sony cares about that? This group contains the people that (SOME, NOT ALL) are likely to pirate stuff if given the chance anyway.

TO THE BUNKER!

Uh oli have you been following this? Actually depending on newer games you buy you will be forced to upgrade.

I understand Sony's position, but it's still way too fucking gay for the consumer. I say fill up your cards with emulated goodness and forget all new PSP titles.

Not attempting to troll, but why not? I would think that a good portion of people that currently have a PSP are paying attention to the emu possibilities. I don't think that it will be enough to become a problem anywhere near DC level's in terms of piracy, but by locking people out through new software purchases it would be enough of a deterent to not purchase them, right?

How ironic....buying a PSP to play emulated GBA games. :lol

That is nice but actually not what I bought the latest technology in handheld gaming for. If there is no hack for 1.0+ versions this year I'll probably sell my 1.0 and get a new one (depends of course what goodness is still to come - PSX, N64, Amiga, PC emulators or some nice full resolution DivX Player might convince me to keep it)

Because I think there's a distinction between 1st in line purchasors and emu folks. While there is crossover I've never seen any indicator anywhere that the majority of those gotta get it first folks are LARGELY made up of emu folks.

Ahh, I see your point. I am just thinking along the lines of those that have interests in emulation and/or piracy have had experiences in knowing that if you want to mess with new hardware, always be an early adopter. Especially since the manufacturers update the machines/firmware as new product rolls off the shelves. But your right, there is no direct correlation that I can make.

Geez. Now you are exaggerating. ;)

Anyway, I'm corious about how Sony will deal with this emu thing considering Nintendo plans with Revolution.

Prediction: NES/SNES/N64 PSP *unofficial* emulator to suddenly work on any firmare upon Revolution release :P

Oh come now, it's not like this is a new thing, we've all been living with auto-patching/upgradin/whatever with new software installs on PCs for a good decade now.
Not to mention I've even seen installs/upgrades without even asking me as well - courtesy of the great IE security.

That would be how MS would do things :P Realistically I doubt Sony will even move a finger.
Of course the nicest thing would be if they'd open up the platform to homebrew software in the same way they did on PS2.

Its definetly a new thing in the console world when it comes to how you want to use your paid for system. (I don't include Xbox Live cause I agree with why the reasons' for the patches....to stop cheaters online)

Ok, I am seriously considering picking up a JPN 1.0 PSP off ebay, but knowing my luck they'll get emu's *and* pirated PSP games to run on any version the day after I receive it.

Dammnit this sucks. I want to play turbo grafix games dammnit. Have people looked into finding a way to erase the internal memory or replace it with an older 1.0 file? Wish I knew back when the JPN PSP's were dropping in price that this would happen and then I would have picked up one of those instead of the American ones. Are the 1.0's still available anywhere?

Besides ebay, I don't really trust ebay. I was thinking Play-asia or NCSX or Liksang. I'm checking now anyway.
