PSP tops C/net's Top 10 Must Have List

I'm on the fence about whether to buy a PSP or a DS.

#1 PSP
#5 DS

that explains how the DS got on there. :)

wonder how many people use their DS for GBA games more than DS games...i know i do.

As if how you're using a gaming device mere months after its launch is indicative of its long-term value. I mean, we all know how shitty PS2 turned out. :rolleyes

i'm not predicting doom for the DS, i'm just really disappointed with the lack of quality software so far (give me mario kart, advance wars, meteos, & harvest moon and i'll be in portable heaven for a long time).

i'm not exactly sold on the PSP either...in fact i'm passing on it for the time being since i only use a portable for so many hours a month. i suspect lists like this cnet one, and the overall highly positive praise from the media in general, will put me in the minority of people passing on the PSP. sony's doing a nice job milking the media hype train so far...i'm curious to see if that'll translate into success like it has with their console business.

I honestly can't decide between a DS and a PSP.

it was tough for me too...but i was given an ipod as a gift so that minimized one of my potential uses for the PSP. the fact that i take a few long trips every year made the DS a bit more appealing since the PSP (currently) is more geared towards short trips (less than 6 hours). i think the software is really close, though. PSP games will obviously be more advanced from a technical standpoint...but the appeal of different/weird games using the microphone and touch pad on the DS makes the potential 'fun factor' of DS games comparable.

i guess you just have to figure out what kinds of gaming experiences you want, what other uses do you want out of your portable, and how much time will spend playing your portable (not so much for battery life, but is it worth it to spend $150+ or $250+ on a system that you may only use for a handful of hours per week). hope that helps.

PSP may be able to emulate GBA games in the not so distant future. The big question is: "Can it emulate N64 games?"

BTW: Have you seen the Tokyo Xtreme Racer PSP Pics? :eek
how are you gonna run foreign code on the psp?

By putting it in a folder called "GAMES" on a memory stick that get made there when you format it in the PSP...

Just a wild guess, but that actually is meant to be used for running executable files off the memory stick. The only announced purpose of it so far is running the OS update with a ROM flasher though.

No surprise given their fanboy Ipod vs PSP article.
Well, it never hurts that editors love some product. You have to understand, PSP is new, shiny, and great, with some crazy tech in it. Few people have it. iPod is, well, shiny and great, but is something those editors had two years ago, and everyone and their mother has at least seen and handled one already.

Let me sum up this thread:

PSP fans: Mimimimimimimi
PSP haters: Mimimimimimimi

Just like almost every other handheld thread here.

Surprised?

Now that you've pointed it out, we ARE just like every other handheld thread. :lol

Umm, of COURSE DS is lower on the thread than PSP, alot of people already HAVE a DS and therefore don't need to WANT one. Nobody has a PSP yet, so of course they all want that.

I've never seen an ipod in real life much less handled one. -_-?
