PSP Video 9 Q

Lets say I have a vid that's already in widescreen and I want to retain those settings during the file convert. What resolution should I set the program at? Also, should I stick with 15fps? Constant or Variable bitrate? and is audio at 48kbps Mono sufficient?

Thanks.

While we're at it. How exactly DO you rip a DVD in order to watch it on a PSP? Obviously I'd want to get rid of the menu, extras, and surround sound. All of this is possible, right?

DVD decrypter should do it, don't know the ins and outs of the proggy though, maybe someone could help.

The resolution that forces the PSP to play in widescreen by default is 368x208.

iPSP is very good for converting different types of video to PSP mp4.

And Quicktime Pro will convert to mp4 in general, just not for PSP.

Thanks. In PSP Video 9 I can't choose "Quality Profile" for some reason. Anyone know why?

I think it depends on if your vid is from a tv show, anime, dvd movie. I ripped my Clerks Uncensored episodes at:

Resolution: 368x208
fps: 29.97(I should try 15fps)
Bitrate: 384 KPS Constant
Audio: 64KPS Stereo at 24000kHz
Volume: 200%
Passes: One

Came out great at around 70MB per ep(50MB if I used 15fps) with minimal breakup. PSP Video 9 has Profile Picker where you choose one and it will give you some estimates on what the quailty on all fronts will be like including file size. Someone like Argyle or Sho Nuff could give you some better settings to use though. Also be sure you have the latest PSP Video 9 version.

And also, what's the best way to get a MPEG-2 file converted to mp4? PSPVideo9 no like it

Wario, Ultra Video Splitter might help you. You have to open the video with UVS, split it into just one file, and save it as a AVI and drag that to PSP Video 9. I use this also to rip clips from DVD movies as well. You can save the file as 368x208 as well before dragging that into PSP Video 9 with UVS.

One way with instructions: http://www.crazyhatsoftware.com/dvd2psp.htm

iPSP site for those who don't know about it (versions for both PC and Mac):

http://ipsp.kaisakura.com/

Takes a lot of the pain out of converting videos to PSP, while also giving you a lot of control over stuff and giving you filesize estimates etc. Handle's a lot of different video formats including DVD rips. Also supports 368x208 for widescreen sources.

Ok, I upgraded PSP Video 9, but now the video encoding process automatically cancels. It didn't before...weird.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

That's the error it gave me. It's not a codec thing either, as the non-updated program didn't give me an error.
