PSP - where's my juice?

Has anyone had any problems with their PSP battery draining quickly when not in use?

Tried to use my PSP yesterday and it didn't power on. Battery dead. Same a few weeks ago. I'm sure I fully charged it, and didn't use it very much. I left it in sleep mode, but previously I'm sure its been asleep for longer with almost no drain.

Oh, and I seem to have lost my AC adapter, which is nice. Anywhere you can get them for cheap? Or are the USB chargers safe?

Heh, don't these batteries start to wear down after a certain amount of charges? I know it should be 500 but I'm sure along the way it'll gradually go down anyway.

My battery is still going strong. Played hours and hours of Wipeout tonight and it only knocked it down 1 block on the battery meter.

As for charger cables, you can get 3rd party ones... I think pelican puts one out.

Did you leave it in sleep mode at the main menu or in a game? Different games have different battery lives in sleep mode.

You're in the UK aren't you? AC adapters are starting to flood the stores over here, but...I don't know if I'd trust the third parties to put out one that would work in the UK with no issues.

I was playing more THUG 2 tonight, and dear lord, that game just eats the battery. As I said in the official thread, if one were to analogize the PSP's battery life with Pabst Blue Ribbon, THUG 2 would be Raoul Duke.

Mrklaw, are you sure you're turning your PSP off instead of just putting it in sleep mode? If you're just tapping the power button up when you're finished, you're only putting it in sleep mode. To turn it off, you have to hold up the button for two seconds.

Sorry if that's a 'no duh' thing to you, but after all the naysaying, I've been pretty pleased with how well my battery is holding up.

Sleep mode from main menu. Mostly because I watch videos, but leave a UMD in there to save storage space :)

It might have been in sleep for up to a month - but even that should be OK from a full charge. I was wondering if it accidentally switched on, but the power switch is tucked deep in the soft case, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Yep, in the UK. I've got a couple of local importers, so I'll check with them, but I don't know if its an official accessory.

Talk about it, I leave the thing in Sleep for an hour or two and it's already down to two bars. Great game though.

Sleep mode most definitely shouldn't drop one bar down after an hour or two. You should be able to keep it in sleep mode for about a week or at least a couple of days, and be able to use it after you power it on again.

Well, that's sleep mode during THUG2, maybe what you mentioned above applies to if you're on the startup menu.

found my charger. Now charging the first battery.

Its odd, because I thought after the Japanese launch that we worked the battery out, and sleep mode makes almost no drain on the battery? Maybe two weeks is just too long.

Wifi switch shouldn't make any difference. I don't think it actually uses wifi unless it needs to - the light blinks when its on. The switch is just for 'permission' - most likely there for flight mode.

Fixed.

"we" just play with their game systems, the engineers are the ones who adjust specifications.

and from what i've heard the battery life still sucks.

Maybe your PSP should turns its owner off of noob mode.

Maybe your PSP should turn you off snotty cunt mode?

I know there were discussions about sleep mode after Japanese launch, and John TV and others (including myself) did some tests and concluded that sleep mode drains little or no battery.

OMG... I was checking how good my ping was like a week ago, and I thought my battery was draining faster than usual.... I'm an ass...

Right above me.

:lol , and now I'm below you!

Clever. I had a finger crossed when I came into this thread that it would somehow be about me. But I don't even have a PSP yet, so I don't see why anyone would want me regarding one--unless they were going to give me theirs?!
