PSP WLAN + Airport Extreme problem

I've been trying to connect to my home WLAN with my PSP. It detects the network fine and all. I've changed the encryption to 128 bit WEP and done exactly as long password as suggested (13 characters). Still, when I test the connection from the PSP, it will give a 80110482 error after trying to connect for a while.

Anyone solved this? Tried to search but all the news in Google about it is in Japanese.

I'll give it a try once my gf is done with Lumines (might take some time, as usual)... I guess it won't expose my laptop anyway if I remove the encryption from the base station? But tech savy neighbors can surf on my bandwidth?

Well thats why I wasn't sure if it was worth removing the encryption. Around here I wouldn't have an issue with it, but depending on where you are at I can see security being a greater concern.

Or using the tunneling software to indeed play over the Internet!

I'd trying disabling the encryption on the base station first to see if it works without it enabled. If it does, then try turning it back on and messing with the settings.

Speaking of firmware, is your AirPort Extreme firmware up to date? You may try that as well.

No idea if this is the problem, but my 128bit key is 26 characters, not 13. You also might wanna check your router's Access List, if activated.

big WEP slows your connection down anyway. Just turn it off and on your router set up trusted MAC addresses. Then you get full speed with no neighbour worries.

Restrict access to the Airport by MAC (not Mac) address. It's easier to deal with than crazy WEP key issues.

Also, if you're doing MAC address filtering, you'll need to add your PSP's MAC to your wireless hub's table to allow access.

Edit: Oops! Looks like some others beat me to the punch on this one! :)

Alright, got it to work. It was a dumbass problem. Although I had changed the Airport settings from the Airport control panel on my Mac and saved the new preferences, I hadn't noticed the button "Update Airport Settings" which loads the new settings and resets the Airport. Hence, my Airport had still the other password type not supported by PSP.

For Mac users in - here is a brief summary what I did:

FROM YOUR MAC
1. Go to Utilities > Airport Admin Utility
2. Press "Settings" or "Preferences" (don't know which one it's in English)
3. For "Wireless Encryption", select "128-bit WEP"
4. Select a 13 character long password and confirm it
5. Press "Update" or "Refresh" on lower right corner (again, don't know which one in English).

FROM YOUR PSP
1. Go to "Network Settings"
2. Select "-New Connection-"
3. Name the connection as you like
4. In the next screen, press "Scan" to find your Airport
5. Then, in the following screen, enter the 13 character password
6. For address settings, select "Easy"
7. Save settings and test connection
