Question about moving

I'm thinking about moving out of my apartment at the end of the month, and I was wondering if I was under any obligation to provide more notice to my landlord than a couple of weeks. I don't have a copy of the agreement I signed a few years ago, and this is the first apartment I've lived in. I know that rental agreements vary, I just want to know if it's common practice for landlords to require notification of a move a certain amount of time in advance.

what state do you live in? i know in texas a new law went into effect where you must give 60 day notice.

that didn't apply to me since i signed my lease back in april, but i still gave them nearly three months notice of my moving out in november to a new complex.

otherwise, it's still 30 days.

Is your lease up? If not then depending on the mood of your landland he/she could sue you for breaching the lease and get a judgemnet that would require you to pay at least a months rent or worse case all the rent for the remaining months on the lease, depends on the state.

Generally speaking if you're out of your lease and don't give a 30 day notice you immediately lose any chance of getting your desposit (or any portion of it) back.
