Question for late adapters.

This is for those gamers who do not buy consoles at launch.

Do you go back and play the launch (window) titles for the system when you eventually buy it or just buy current games?

The consensus among my peers is that they just pick up where the console currently is, and ignore the back catalogue.

Of the DreamCast, PS2, Xbox, and GCN. I have only played Soul Calibur, Halo, and a round of SSBM. I bought all systems at least 6 months are launch.

I am curious to what other gamers do.

I check out this forum, if people are pimping things that are awesome from that time, I usually grab them, I'm a PAL gamer so I'm used to getting things late. (Psychonauts, when is that coming again?)

Generally speaking, I have ignored most games released before I bought the system. If I were that interested in those games then I would have bought the system sooner. In the instances where I ignored the previously mentioned protocol and tried to play catch up via the bargain bin, I ended up wasting money because I simply didn't care to really play the games.

I had deleted that post because it didn't translate well, either to reality or to readability. But I put it back since you quoted part of it. :lol

Truth be told, when I bought Xbox, I tried to play the catch up game. I bought a bunch of stuff that the normal Xbot loved to go on and on about (Splinter Cell, Shenmue II, Oddworld, etc.), ended up getting rid of most of those games.

When I bought the PS2, I was at least a little more contained, but I still bought a few games that I probably should not have. I bought Jak & Daxter, came to my senses before I even unwrapped it since I don't even like platformers and traded it in towards Dark Cloud 2. I didn't like that one so much, either. Played it for 10 hours and just found it to be not my type of thing. Final Fantasy X worked out well, though.

I buy some of the old games that get discounted first cause some of them get impossible to find by the time I get the console

I got an Xbox in October and I've only purchased a few older games for it, (though I plan on picking up Panzer Dragoon Orta, Ninja Gaiden and possibly a couple of other titles) but for the most part, I've only bought recent releases for it.

I bought all the systems well after launch....from time to time I made grabs of obscure or big titles from all their libraries. Especially if it was a niche thing I could get cheap at this point. If it's a series that tends to sequalize a lot, I don't bother.
