Question for the weebs

Hey, I'm going to a con soon, and the particular con I'm going to will be featuring a Seiyuu as a guest. They'll be available for autographs as well... for $325 a pop.

I've been to other cons before, and western VA signatures are usually $40 - $60, which I'm used to. $325 seems insane though. But from what I've been reading, Seiyuu's rarely ever do signatures, and when they do, it's usually at western conventions like this one.

I would really like to get this particular Seiyuu's signature, but I'm wondering if any other, more experienced weebs, could tell me if this is a good opportunity/price. I keep going back and forth and need some outside input lol.

I'm going to meet Linda Hamilton in March, so if I were you I would. I'll get him to sign my Terminator Resistance game.

If you need to ask - it’s a bad deal. Put that $325 as an investment in yourself, get some courses, sport classes or just buy a bunch of weights.
You are talking about a piece of paper with a signature. That person doesn’t know you and will forget about your existence in 2 seconds.

Weebs are weird. I am one.

Buy something nice and more fulfilling, like travel, games, replace home item, invest it, a $1 to charity, restaurant.

Signatures were fun until the charges became stupid, like this. Free or couple $ but hundreds is no thanks. Sure, the person probably only sees a fraction of the cost, so even more so f that noise.

I guarantee not all that money is going to the Seiyuu.

I assume most of it is used to recoup the cost of inviting that person and flying them to the con itself. It's definitely overpriced.

What good is a $325 dollar signature?
None. Its a messed up culture but then again the same people spent a fortune on bathwater so, yeah.
The signature has resale value. Not that I'd resell it, but it's far from worthless.

Which seiyuu is it?
Rica Matsumoto.

That person doesn’t know you and will forget about your existence in 2 seconds.
That's fine, that's not why I'd be getting it. I just think it'd be a cool artifact to own.

No harm to you but if you’re spending £325 on a persons signature I think you either have too much money
I'm financially secure enough that I can afford frivolous shit like this. I just want to hear from other people who have gotten a signature from a Seiyuu if this is par the course in price.

OP. If you like it and are willing to pay, go ahead. I speak for myself, if I came to Mexico and it was a reasonable price, I would pay it...

Maximum $100, no more.

I would bring the Pokemon game or Kingdom hearts 3.

Unless you can get them to sign something which you can then go on to sell for a nice profit this seems insane.

I speak personally, but if I go to those events it is more like proof that I met the actors, more than anything.

And they are memories.

I always have them put my name on those autographs.

At least in the events that I have attended in Mexico they can record a video and talks with the actor.

In the end it is not expensive in my country, and it is a different type of experience, I have also met free music groups 😂

I waited in line for 6 hours for Scott Frost to sign a bunch of stuff years ago. I don’t remember my parents paying anyone for it.. Another time I had a pro Halo athlete sign my Xbox for free (ShookOn3). Those are the only two autographs I remember getting in person.

That seems like a lot of money. The voice actor from DMC who voiced Vergil was here in town a couple months ago. I was seriously contemplating going to the comic book shop to get his autograph, but they wanted $50. $100 or more for a selfie and autograph. My wife told me I was foolish and that was too much. I ended up driving by the store after getting food for us and there weren’t that many cars parked out front.

There are very few people I’d pay money for their signature. I did purchase a Hideo Kojima autograph, but that one is special to me. You have to listen to your heart. Is this something you really really want? I don’t regret spending what I did for Kojima’s signature, but it sure wasn’t over $300.

I probably could. It'd likely appreciate in value, too. But again, I probably wouldn't resell it.

But why? If you want something cool look at the antiques auctions, you can get super nice stuff for less, much more important than a seiyuu signature.
It has personal value. I could probably get a lot of other cool artifacts for the same price, but one of the questions I'm having to ask myself is, "is this one $325 thing worth more to me than all the other things I could get for $325?"

Still debating that internally, but outside input on whether $325 is a fair price for this Seiyuu will help drive that decision.

I had made a post about the famous people I have met and who have signed my video games. Money is spent and comes back...

But it's the experience you have.

Yes, I haven't spent more than 100 dollars for that...

It's just that each person is different.

You and only you decide.

If you have the desire and the money, go ahead.

If you consider that the price is expensive, it is respectable.

But YOU make the decision.

Although honestly the price is a lot.

If it were in my case Keiichiro Toyama and he signs my Gravity Rush.

I would pay

What kind of resell value would it really have? Is she even known for anything outside of voicing Satoshi from Pokemon?
In any case, if you are a big fan of the seiyuu then yeah, 325 might be worth it. I'm guessing you aren't though, and just want an autograph for the sake of having one. If it was me, I wouldn't do it even if it was only 50 bucks if I'm not a fan of the person.

There is personal value to me outside of just having the autograph for the sake of it. She was also the first voice of Gon from the 1998 Hunter x Hunter pilot, aside from being Satoshi in Pokemon. The pilot was released on VHS in Japan for a short period of time in 1998, and you had to mail order for it.

I'd be getting that signed and I wouldn't be selling it. I only mentioned resale value in response to the signature being worthless.

That isn't how all of these things are structured. The talent is guaranteed a minimum amount, then they can price their stuff however they want and if they can score more than the minimum, they keep it. The accomodations are then on the talent.

$325 for just a signature is a bit crazy, obviously priced that way because the talent is A. far away and travel is expensive, B. knows their signature resells for a lot and knows their value, and C. needs a good amount of $$$ to get out to a con. So must be a pretty famous person or a recluse.

For an actual photo-op meet n'greet that seems more in-line. Plenty of b-grade sci-fi actors at cons less than $325 but the bigger stars can command that much. Shatner and his level are usually in the 700-800 range.

For 325.... you should demand them tattooing their signature on your dick - anything less would be a waste of money, but then again, I'm not a weeb and don't know how much their signature means too you, so maybe you should do it.

Lmao funny you should mention that, while researching signature prices for this person, I came across someone that actually got the signature as a tattoo:

The only time I want a signiture off a 'famous' person is when they are writing me a cheque for a million dollars. Other than that they are worthless.

I have an autographed 1st ed of the first few Song of Ice & Fire books. They are all but worthless to me now.
See, I would still value that. I have signed copies of projects I love, be it novels, pieces of art, or movie posters. The signature itself is kinda meaningless true, but it serves to remind me of the moment where I had a, albeit brief, connection with the artist. I got a buddy that tried to corner the market with first edition GRRM stuff. He has SHELVES full of multiple copies. Gotta ask how that investment is going now , maybe make a bid for a set before GRRM dies and that stuff goes ballistic :p

Buying signed stuff off ebay or whatever is probably beyond my interest. I see lots of that stuff at cons and I won't lie, a Conan poster signed by Arnie would be DOPE but also probably $500 or more and just not worth it to me though the instant he passes it becomes essentially priceless. Though I see those art renders of the various Enterprise ships with all the sigs of the cast of that era (most of whom are gone now for TOS at least) and WOW, so cool but not $5k cool (to me).

I like the hunt. Meeting Larry Hama, David Elmore, Tracy Hickman, Larry Niven, etc, THAT'S the reward for me.

I've paid for signatures, and I've paid a considerable amount of money for original comic art commissions.

$325 is absolutely insane for a signature.
