Quick question about OG Xbox backwards compatibility on 360...

I recently bought a 360 used from a friend, as the 360 is largely the only last gen console I haven't experienced much of. In addition to 360 exclusives, I was also interested in it's backwards compatibility with the OG Xbox. I know it only supports a few games, but luckily, the game I wanted to play the most (Panzer Dragoon Orta) is on the compatibility list.

However, when I try to load the disc, I get an error saying "This original Xbox game is not supported on your Xbox 360 console. An update to support this game may be available." I'm using an official Microsoft HDD, and have the latest system update installed. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I'm not quite sure what I could be missing.

Panzer dragoon orta is compatible. Panzer dragoon saga was only on Sega saturn

I had the USA jsrf + orta disc which version do you have?

It should automatically download an update to play OG Xbox games. Are you using the console online for this to happen?

The other thing is that you might not have an official X360 hard Drive. There are lot's of clone drives our there that are missing the sector on the Hard Drive used for Backwards compatibility.

Ya I was also going to suggest a counterfeit drive. Make sure it has the proper stickers.

Do other Xbox games work?

If you do have a counterfeit drive there is still a way to get it to work but it requires disassembly and hooking it up to your computer.

Make sure you're connected to the internet so that it grabs the latest emulator to play Orta (it's possible to not have this, even if you have the latest dashboard update)

If it doesn't work at that point then that is really weird.

I connected to Live to download an update (The latest firmware, I think?). Was that the right one? Do I need Gold?

As far as I know, the HDD is official. Microsoft branded and everything.

Some times they will gut it and just put any drive in there. What size is your HDD and is it the white old 360?

IIRC, the backcompat updates are not part of the standard firmware updates. They're an optional component that's downloaded on-demand when you try to play a backcompat game, so if you've just gone online, downloaded updates, then unhooked everything before trying to boot up Orta, that won't be enough.

It's a 20GB drive and it's an old 360. (A quick google search tells me it's a Jasper model.)

see thats sorta fishy already because during jasper revisions the smallest hdd you could get was a 60gb so the hdd must have been bought separately from the console.

i really think its just a gutted or counterfeit drive. so you'll need to 'hack' the backwards compatibility partition by connecting it to your computer through sata.

Or, they bought a new Xbox with the 60gb drive and swapped it out with the 20gb one? People have done stranger things.

Huh. That sounds likely, I suppose. Do I have any other options aside from breaking into the current HDD?

its actually more likely that whoever bought the console initially bought the 360 arcade (doesnt have the silver trim on the disc tray) which doesnt come with a hdd. then bought the cheapest hdd he could find on ebay which was a 20gb counterfeit.

nope. unless you buy another hdd but make sure its a official one. i'd back up any of your save data to a usb drive or cloud if you start messing around with it. the reliability should be fine otherwise.

Were they still selling the arcade edition when Jasper rolled out? It's been so long since I've seen the Arcade edition that I don't remember how long they offered it for.

I tried playing Orta on my 360. It worked, but the emulation was garbage and the game ran terribly. It's not worth your trouble. Just play it on an OG Xbox.

Ahaha, got prompted for a compatibility update when I tried starting Orta now. Turns out I had to actually make a Live Account, lol. Didn't know connecting to Live and actually being signed in to it were two different things.

Edit: And it's working! Thanks for the help, all!
