Quick question about PS2 DVD playback

I got a hold of the "Thai Warrior - Ong Bak" DVD, and all I get is the sound, and some red stripes at the title screen where I should be able to choose options. If I'm reading the DVD case correctly, it's encoded as MGP-5, which I take it is not viewable on the PS2. Is this correct, or do I have a bum DVD?

Mmmmh, normally, PS2 are supposed to play DVD correctly "assuming they are RETAIL". But I know there are some rare case of movies not playing on it.

It also depends on you're PS2 version and the version of DVD-playback soft driver intalled.
Later model are able to play dual-layer DVD correctly for instance.

So basically, it depends on many details. I know there was some site displaying compatibility charts based on the spec of your PS2 but I don't remember the URL.
