Quick Street Fighter II Question

Hey Y'all,

I'm wondering what is a more 'true' arcade conversion of SF2' Turbo Hyper Fighting on the PS2? I have both PS1 SF2 Collection 2 and PS2 Hyper SF2:Anniversary Edition. I hear Hyper SF2:AE is CPS2-based but is PS1 SF2 Collection 2 CPS1-based?

The reason I ask is that I'm having a get-together and have a SF2' Turbo Hyper Fighting arcade game...I'd want people to be able to 'practice' the exact game on my regular TV as well.

I would ask the SRK.com forums the same question but it seems that their site is down...

Thanks in advance!

I can't answer you're question, sorry :/ i have PS1 SF Collection 2 and Saturn Capcom Generation 5 though. i don't feel the need to get PS2 SF2 AE

I'd say SF2 Collection 2, it seemed pretty close to the arcade version from what I could tell.

I didn't really get to play Hyper SF2 enough to see how all the character variations felt...

Playing Hyper SF2 with the CPS1 music on and with the Hyper play style feels closer to the original game than the games on the PSX/Saturn collections do, but it's really hard to tell. I want to say that Hyper SF2 retains more of the original arcade feel and that the PSX/Saturn versions had some of the bugs/glitches removed, but I don't play in the Hyper style all that much; I usually stick to the SF2 and SSF2T styles.

If you can play the game emulated, that's going to be the way to go. None of the people coming have modded Xbox systems or a PC they can bring with some sticks? :)

The more 'truer' SF2 Turbo iz of course iz in the original SF Collection 2. Of course, you can get the same experience by selecting SF2 Turbo mode for your character in Anniversary Collection. The only thing missing from the experience would be the SF2 Turbo backgrounds and soundtrak.

Now that'd be the perfect oppurtunity to break out the old 2-player X-Arcade again, and rub some shoulders.

In Hyper Street Fighter II, you can go to the options menu and select the CPS1 soundtrack. This is the soundtrack that was used on the earlier SF2 games all the way up to Street Fighter II Turbo. There's no way to "roll back" the background graphics, though.

if you cannot have the original Hyper/Turbo / Champion Edition and World Warrior backgrounds, there is no point in getting the Anniversary Edition.

I've got:

1. MAME, Callus on my PCs
2. Saturn Capcom Generation 5
3. PS1 SF Collection 2
4.) Dreamcast SSF2X (SSF2T)

I'm fine with this.

I'd hate to be missing the original versions of the backgrounds and music. I don't like some of the changes that came with SSF2/SSF2T backgrounds. such as Blanka's stage. no parallax scrolling clouds.

mini rant: is it so fucking difficult, Capcom, to make a collection with 100% arcade perfect versions of the 5 or so major versions of the SF2 games? World Warrior, Champion Edition, Turbo/Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter 2, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo/Grandmaster Challenge ? what the fuck is wrong with that? but no, we have to play with SSF2/SSF2T backgrounds when playing World Warrior, Champion Edition or Turbo/Hyper Fighting styles.

no sale.

Wow, you've really got a beef with Anniversary Collection doncale!

I think it's really novel that Capcom made a Street Fighter Trilogy, ala MK Trilogy. Although i think Capcom could of gone the extra mile to include every bg from SF2 history, but it's a small sacrafice.

Hyper SF II is almost pointless. Who cares HF Ken vs. CE Ken or anything like that? Even if you do you can already do it on SFC2, just now you can do it with Super and ST characters too! Oh wow! It's only good for having a version of ST on ps2.

Hyper SF II isn't like MK Trilogy.

Please explain, because i disagree.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy had all of the MK1 and MK2 stages in addition to MK3/UMK3 stages. By comparison, Hyper Street Fighter II only has SSF2/SSF2T stages, not ones from earlier SF2 games. On the other hand, MKT didn't contain any of the MK1 music, while HSF2 has virtually all of the earlier games' music. HSF2 might actually have all of it, but certain pieces (such as the bonus stage music) are only accessible in the Gallery Mode, and not during gameplay.

Also, the MK1/MK2 characters that were inserted into MKT had some additional moves and chain combos. You could disable chain combos and play the game MK2 style if you wanted to, but of course this would affect both players, regardless of which character was selected.

Okay, i definitely know the differences between the games, but Hyper SFII iz the closest thing to resembling MK Trilogy in a long time.

Interesting responses, thanks...well, at my get-together we just stuck to playing SF2' only on the arcade game while other people ended up playing Karaoke Revolution on the TV...good times =)

MKT is basically just UMK3 but with the rest of the characters and most backgrounds from MK and MK II. I guess the 4 classic characters in the CD versions are sort of like Hyper SF II, but even then they still play MK3 style. Even if you turn off chain combos the game still has the mechanics of MK3. You can't pick the MK1 version of Sub-Zero or the MK II version of Sub-Zero and then play MK II style, which is the whole point of Hyper SF II.

True, you can't play the MK1 Sub-Zero (well, you can, because he's actually the extra Sub-Zero from MK3U), but you can play the MK1 versions for Kano or Raiden.

Okay, I know there are some differences, but the stages from all the SF2 upgrades are basically the SAME, that's why Capcom probably didn't bother throwing the older ones in. :P

I do think that the CPS1 versions of the stages should have been in the game to go along with the earlier character portraits and music, but more important than that is the earlier *CPU* characters. I hate how you can only fight the SSF2T CPU in arcade mode. It's amazing to me that Capcom can still be that lazy even in a game that is 100% recycled. :)

Classic Sub-Zero from UMK3 is not the same as the MK1 Sub.

Yeah, there's 4 classic characters. But that's only 4 alternate versions in a game with a roster of 32 characters. Plus as I said, it's not like you're actually playing as Kano from MK1. It's Kano from MK1 modified to fit into MK3.
