Google Privacy 0.1.0 addon

About this Add-on

Google Search and other search engines and websites seem to ignore Mozilla's 'Do-Not-Track'-header and add tracking functions to their search results and external links anyway.
This add-on shows tracking-free links or optionally replaces the results with those links.

Websites supported (for now) are Google, YouTube, Yahoo!, Bing and Facebook.

No other good alternatives.

Gmail is by far the best email service. Hotmail/yahoo my ass. Plus it's the most secure with two step verification.

Google Search is still the best search engine.

Youtube is great and there's no competitor.

Chrome is the sexiest, fastest and most useful browser with the cool sync.

So yea, Google it is.

Not exactly sure why people are freaking out about this, but are happy to continue to reveal their private information on Facebook.

Nope, hushmail is far the best free email out there. Next two I agree with and with Chrome I don't know yet. I have used it for some time now and it indeed feels lot better then Firefox at least so far.

edit. well apparently the free service's inbox storage has been lowered yet again so yeah, it seems gmail is the best free option out there.

You have to take it to another level if you really want to get out from underneath googles eyes. Google isn't even the worst offended. Facebook is insidious with the tracking. But there are hundreds of companies that track you for advertisers and no solid way for you to block them.

On the one hand, gmail and chrome and google docs are all really nice and make the internet Easy To Use™

but on the other hand, google search has been complete garbage for the past year or two, it's gotten to the point where if I don't use quotes I will NEVER find what I'm looking for - google loves to stuff the first page of search results with location-specific nonsense, ads, and miscellaneous shit from my internet history that contains one word of the search term on the whole page

damned if I'm going to use bing, though

Oh yeah, the g+ shit in my searches is complete shit.

There is no privacy. Just a false sense of security that gets ripped wide open if you happen to make enemies of the government. Or 4chan.

I use gmail because it's nice and plays well with everything I have. I'm not one of those 200 emails-a-day types so it isn't really that important to me anyway, although I do have like 4 alt accounts on gmail alone.
And I use google search because it works the best as far as I can tell, and even if it doesn't, I've been using the damn thing for so long that I can find anything I need to with it anyway. The syntax stuff that lets you advanced search without the advanced search and time controls are the biggest draw for me.

I never left hotmail completely and did leave gmail when it advertised based on what I was reading. Just kinda weirds you out.

Bing is every bit as good as google on search. I use it all the time at work out of convenience (it's in the browser toolbar by default).

Google+ and other services are easily ditched. I dropped g+ when they put my profile for first search on my name.

Youtube is impossible to leave, it is best in class.

I've been using Bing the last few weeks because Google was driving me crazy by refusing to save my search settings again, and it's really good for a few things. Maps are better, video search is way better, images about the same. Normal, every day searches seem about the same.

That MS ad got me. I was scrolling down expecting one of those semi-graph, info-pictorial things and it wasn't until I saw the "alternatives" that I realised what was going on. Very cleverly worded.

the naivety in this thread is stunning.

Credit cards / Savings cards etc track your spending, who you spend it with, frequency etc etc etc etc etc and have since just after the ark

your isp knows everything you do on the net.

you phone company tracks ALL your comms made from any sort of phone, fixed/cell/sat

if you have cable the cable co knows what you watch and when

if you think MS is any better LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL I have a large planet i can sell you.

if you don't want to be tracked, use only cash, don't have a bank account, no cable tv, live in very small towns without security cameras, do not mail anything to anyone at anytime and DO NOT EVER USE THE INTERNET

That's actually kind of necessary as they do call and warn you about possible fraud if there's a pattern of suspicious spending on your account. Apparently, if there's a sudden surge in purchases of champagne, diapers, and razor blades then there's a reasonably high chance that your card was stolen.

I'm going to give duck duck go a shot as my search engine - this was pulled me in: http://donttrack.us/

This too - even when you don't think your'e tracked. For instance, Meijer (big, local grocery chain) just sent us an ad with coupons and every single one of the items were items we have purchased in the past year. The kicker is that they do not use one of those discount tags like Safeway, Kroger, etc., so the only way they would be able to correlate our purchases is through our credit card number, which they must have paired up against data they bought from the credit card companies to determine our address.

Speaking of quitting google, a friend of a friend of mine got hired by Google last month. He had around 10 extensive interviews and they are giving him a year to come down to States (He's in Toronto) and they'll pay for his move, will get him 100 google shares and are paying over $150,000+ a year.

The best part of all? Google gets roughly a million resumes every year from around the world and they hire only a couple dozen or so, and this guy didn't even apply to google; he was hand-picked.

Am I the only one that doesn't really care about this new privacy stuff? I'm pretty much okay with it all.
I'm cool with it, I'm signed up for everything Google damn near offers, hell I was even in Wave lol. So yeah Google already knows everything about me, plus I'm on android kinda hard to quit that.

Wow, what does he do?

You can still use google, YT without signing into an account no?

What about if you have an Android phone?

The best part is that they'll outsource him in the next five years, anyway.

What if you use a throwaway email for the store? And nothing else. Or maybe someone found something to use on rooted phones?
Well you can start the phone with out a Google account, they have apps for hotmail and yahoo in the market. You can use Amazon market for apps since you need a Google account for the market. You can also use firefox as a web browser. You just lose out on contact sync and what not.

In all seriousness, I do wish I could keep track of more data: what time of the day I shower, how long my commute is, my energy level or mood, what I eat, with whom I talk and for how long, etc.

If i could easily visualize and correlate data like this, I bet I'd diacover all kinds of great stuff.

Here's the thing, MS/Google/Amazon/Valve have never given me an issue when it comes to using my data in a way that negatively affects me or given me bad customer service. So I honestly couldn't care less if they sell my google searches.

EA/Sony are two companies that have shown me they can not be trusted with any sort of information so when I need to use anything of theirs I only give fake/dedicated spam email accounts and bullshit info.

Also besides my CC info/passwords there isn't a single thing I've done online that I'd be that upset about posting anywhere. Whoop de doo google knows I search alot for journal articles about psychology when I forget my school login info for JSTOR. They also know I like video games, basketball, and hot red headed girls. Oh well! If this means I get ads targeted at me and every google banner has a hot red head trying to sell me some shitty credit service or overpriced cpu components? Fine with me.
