FUCK. I was hoping that the typo in the thread title was real. I just bookmarked one of his pages a few weeks ago. This man was as legendary and the content of his work.
About his covers:

"I remember fans would approach me at conventions and say "What a fabulous cover. I read the entire book awaiting to read about the scene on the cover and never found it. So I read it again thinking I missed it, but no luck." Never judge a book by its cover." - Frank Frazetta

god damn.. I seriously had no idea he was still alive.. I had assumed not considering most of his most famous paintings were from books and pulp from the 50s and 60s.

R.I.P. Frank Frazetta. Very very very very few fantasy artists anywhere near the same caliber. Off the top of my head only Larry Elmore, Boris Vallejo and Luis Royo would I consider even close.

This man has held a special place in my heart for over 16 years now.

So true. I can't think of much that I could stare at and pick apart, visually, so much. Such a great loss. :(

Don't know the man. Beautiful works. Looks a bit like those Slaine comic covers.

Traditional drawing <3
as much as a "sometimes fan" as I am of Bisley (he did those covers and stories, Lobo, Melting Pot, etc), he isn't in the same ballpark as Frazetta, nor would he ever claim to be. At his best he is an awesome cartoonist, but IMHO doesn't really compare as a "fantasy artist".

RIP to such a great artist. Will post some images of his that I love later. Despite this being a big loss, Frazetta was 82, and whilst he was no longer producing fantasy art like he was in his hay day, he had a prolific career and left a legend that is all but impossible to live up to. RIP man, RIP....

Such a talent, it's a shame that he's gone, but I'm thankful for what he did while he was around.

I've been meaning to pick up an art book of his. Any recommendations? I'm looking for one that's really image-heavy, I'm not particularly interested in reading about them.

How the hell did I put a P in the tittle? :/

You guys should check out his the documentary Painting with Fire. The guy is amazing, he had a stroke not to long ago and lost control of his right hand. So he learned how to draw left handed :o

He was also a pretty good baseball player :D

god damn, i remember reading heavy metal magazine when i was a kid and being inspired by his work, sucha big loss. today's artists can learn a thing or two hundred form him.

We lost a master artist today, R.I.P!

I always wanted to emulate his art (I still suck) and always envisioned if I ever married my wife would look like the girls in his art.

Frazetta - Painting with Fire (2003) everybody should watch the documentary on him if you have not seen it before, very good doc.

I loved his artwork and his covers. They took him and Nujabes :( Who will the universe rob from us next?

This is really sad news. I remember my dad showing me his work when I was a kid...really fired up the imagination(was a bit young to notice the women back then :D )
