she was really famous before psycho, that's why it was an even greater shock that she was killed off so early in the movie.

For the record for years afterwards she apparently stopped taking showers after filming/seeing that sequence, she's commented on it a few times in interviews that it left such an impression on her that she stopped taking showers... now some interviews say in that type of shower and some just say stopped taking showers...

They shared screen time together in John Carpenter's "The Fog", if you really want a comparison. It's just incredible that Jamie Lee came out of this woman.
