R-Type Final 2- third Trailer Update

Still have memories of playing r type as a kid with friends on ps1. Game was hard as hell but fun. We always tried to see who could get the farthest in the game.

I remember playing the original arcade game at Towers stores (a pre-cursor bargain store of Zellers) back in the 80s. I thought it was a super hard game.

Then you watch arcade speed runs and it's so easy. lol

Lol the speed runs make it look easy. I tried playing a few years ago and I suck more now than when I was a kid. I couldn't get very far. As to why. IDK. Maybe it's my illness.

Haven't heard of Towers or Zellers stores. Then again I was born in 1989 and grew up in the 90s. Arcades died fast here lol.

These were Canadian bargain stores. Think of Walmart, but grungier. Walmart Canada didn't come till 1994 or 1995 and didn't really take off till the 2000s.

Zellers bought out Towers (not to be confused with anyone thinking Towers music stores), and Zellers disappeared here when Target Canada came in 2013 and took over their leases. There were a handful of Zellers stores that lingered around as liquidation stores, but according to Wiki they all disappeared in Jan 2020.

I knew there were some Zellers stores in small towns, but I had no clue they lasted this long.

Problem with Zellers is that the people working there were lazy. Both Walmart and Zellers were pretty similar in prices and the type of crap you buy there and also locations (often in or near strip malls or big malls). But you go to a Walmart and it's clean, bright and people are hustling. Go to a Zellers and it was one of those old school legacy kind of stores where everyone working there looks 60 years old, are 25 year employees and they stand around talking about their grand kids than checking people out. I'm in line buying some random shit and there's a line and old lady cashier #1 is gabbing back and forth with old lady cashier #2 about random shit and everyone is line is like, WTF let's go?!?! And it looked like the typical Zellers store wasn't cleaned or had shelves organized for weeks at a time. Half the time, it was like walking into a glorified flea market messy shit everywhere.

Zellers was also one of those schmoozy retailers to work with where head office buyers loved grabbing free dinners, sports tix, concert tix and shit like that. No shame. Try that with the head office people at Walmart or Costco and they'd tell the account managers to fuck off.

Head office people had no clue on strategy. It was just short term cash grabs. With Walmart and Costco, they grill you on cost but there are anaytcs involved and some sense of agreeing on products, price and long term success.

With Zellers, whatever products the buyer could get at the lowest cost was all that mattered. Account managers would stuff them with too much stock or stupid products that don't even fit the Zellers model for long term success, but as long as the cost was good the buyer would probably green light it.

Wacky shit.

Sounds like Zellers was a shitty store. I know a few places like that in the poor side of town. It Looks like a tornado has gone through the store with a ton of junk off the shelves and on the floor. I can relate to slow service. Before Amazon and buying everything online I used to wait in long lines at checkout all the time. It sucked. Nowadays it's not so bad. Pre covid at least. I haven't been inside a store since January.

I grew up here in the US so that is probably why I never heard of Zellers and the like.

We now have a ton of Walmart's and targets here in this city.

Zellers must have been like a cockroach takes awhile to die off.

They lasted as they were the only organized bargain chain in Canada. And it was part of the giant HBC corporation. HBC wanted to cash out and made a deal for Target to take over the leases with strip mall owners. Before Walmart came, they were the default store to go to if you wanted a Walmart-ish experience. Amazingly, when Wally came and prospered, they still didn't change. lol

I never liked the use of 3D graphics in these 2D scrolling shooters. I still prefer the way older sprite based games look, for this particular genre.

Looking forward to this.

What gets me worried a bit is the a bit lame level layouts I have seen so far.
The first RType Final had some crazy stuff going on with view points and transitions.

I like the modernised look on a classic shooter.

But anyone else prefer vertical shmups like me??
Just used to them because of my arcade days playing twin cobra, raiden and such...

Suddenly ps4 (and switch) got a tsunami of bullethells and shmups during TGS.. Deathsmiles I & II , psyko collection (gunbird etc) , cotton reboot, Gradius III.. damn!

Looks sweet. The editing of the gameplay bit gave me face problems though, why all the zooming?!?? I just tryna see it!

I missed out on the kickstarter for this game, but I will be first in line when I buy this game on Steam. Just glad Steam is a place where more and more shmups show up on the service every day.

Do you think it's be too much for the devs to put the classic Amiga intro music in there somewhere :) This tune was/is one of the best (in my view) ever written for a game.

Looks good! Wish I was better at these kind of games... Still trying to beat Ikaruga. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Is Series X getting any next gen upgrades? I don't see a purpose releasing this on Series X if its going to be same as the regular xbox.

Experience the return of the legendary side-scroller series, now on modern platforms! R-Type Final 2 unites the explosive action of the original games with modernized visuals and gameplay features, making this a must-have title for new and old shoot-'em-up fans alike.

Coming to PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC in Spring 2021!

yah, the lighting effects are top-notch. Looking forward to this.

I am like the biggest R-type fan ever, but I am not so sold on this new game yet, to be honest.

With all the craziness and brilliant ideas that were going on in R-Type final, everything I have seen from the new game looks extremely tame in comparison..

Will buy this anyway, but still...

Two of my favorite genres, side scrolling shooters and RTS, are not as represented anymore so it is great to see another classic entry being made.

Now only if they would announce Gradius VI or Axelay 2...
