Race Driver 2006 is set to be the most realistic and comprehensive racing title on the PSP system with a host of new features and content for its North American release. Cramming in more auto sports than any other PSP system game, it comes complete with real performance cars, real damage, real physics, and intense pack racing with up to 21 cars on-screen competing for position. Plus, with WLAN multiplayer gaming modes enabling up to 12 players to race simultaneously and an all-new WLAN game mode, competitive racing has never been so aggressive or closely fought.

* Providing PSP system petrol heads with the most diverse range of insanely fast racing events ever seen in one game, players will get to compete in GT Sports Car Racing, Street Racing, Rally, DTM, V8 Supercars, Global GT Lights, Rally Cross, Formula Ford, Open Wheel Grand Prix, Classic Car Racing, Super Truck racing, Stockcar Oval Racing, Ice-Racing, Convertible Racing, and Performance Car events.
* Over the European edition, Race Driver 2006 adds 10 all-new international tracks, such as Nashville Super Speedway and Shanghai, taking the total featured to a tarmac-melting 60+ circuits! More super-charged cars are also being featured, including the Buick Gran Sport 455, Pontiac Firebird Formula 400, Dodge Charger, Gemballa GTR 750 EVO, Koenig GT and Koenig GTD – giving players over 50 sensational machines to race.
* Designed especially for the PSP system gaming, a further race mode, the Trans-World Cup, delivers high-octane racing in short bursts making it perfect for gaming on the go. Through a variety of event-based challenges, including Time Trials and Skill Tests rather than a series of straight races, players must drive hard to become the World's No. 1 ranked racer.
* In addition to the Trans-World Cup, Race Driver 2006 also includes the entire Career Mode from the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system edition of TOCA Race Driver 2 with its engaging story mode and FMV narrative. From humble beginnings as a rookie-racing driver, players will race through the ranks of the racing world in fierce competition with 12 other drivers.

Thanks to all you guys at Sumo Digital for the Outrun 2 port. Much appreciated and can't wait for Coast to Coast :D

Anyway I take it this just the American name for TOCA 2: Ultimate Racing simulator as I'm pretty sure I've seen these exact screens before. I think the TOCA 2 PSP port is really impressive and works well on the PSP.

It is - and it isn't. Theres a load of new stuff in there too - plus we plan to see if we can't get a bit more out of the PSP whilst we're at it.

It's got a bit to go yet - so can't say too much about it right yet :)

OutRun shaping up nice on PSP too!

bah! the frame´rate sucks big time and in combination with the fucked up controls the game is just unplayable. if you want to play this game, buy the ps2/xbox version.

Fucked up controls? Dont you just press a button for gas and steer with either the analogue stick or the dpad? Which of your preferred control options is it lacking?

The analog stick sucks (European version), way too sensitive and the d-pad .. lets just say you need to get used to it and it's not how this game should be played.

LOL - so you couldn't make it round the track without crashing then :)

We spent a lot of time on the controls, they are fully adjustable (redefinable and High/Low sensitivity settings). Maybe you don't like the style of game, but that's not really our fault is it?

Yeah, the frame rate can drop, but show me another game on PSP that has 24 cars racing at once, with full damage and proper physics. Never mind the fact we support 12 players via Wifi, or the fact it was the first PSP game to feature Custom Soundtracks, plus all this in a launch title :)

No pleasing some folk :P

listen to him - he is right. i think, they should take some ai opponents out of the game. make the framerate more stable and work on the d-pad controls. this game is just a bad conversion and shows everyone, why a publisher should not port a game, which was not intended for psp.

If this is the Pal game again, I thought it was a really good port of Toca 2. Toca 2 had some strange controls on console (to get used to at least) and I thought it translated fine. I only got to play it for a few days, but it was a good racer. The console game was good. I hope they added some content for the US version.

Bad conversion? Bar the framerate it's the same game as the PS2. With any luck we'll get that sorted now we know the machine that little bit better.

As for the game not being intended for the PSP, by which manner are you measuring that? It's done very well in sales, so it's commercially viable, it scored highly in reviews, so it's critically viable so I'm not sure where that piece of wisdom came from.

Unless you only want load of platform games or something, like the GBA has wound up with?

Most odd.

I don't know if it's good, but those backgrounds don't look too hot. Look at #5 with the buildings. Yikes.

#1 You do realize this is a PSP game with a shitload of cars on the track right?

#2 I can't exactly say these backgrounds look much worse than those in either NFS on the PSP.

and thats a failure in my eyes. the game works on ps2 perfekt, but not on a handheld system like the psp. controls, framrate, handling, loading times...

*gags*

I'd rather not them try to cram a bunch of crap into the game and have it look like that. 10 cars on screen is enough for me.
