Resident Evil may be seeing its end soon due to Mikami leaving Capcom. Find out the details inside.

Rumours have been floating around the internet since the Resident Evil 4 being ported to PS2 story was announced and now it seems that Syobo Online have the official word.

"First off, the breaking of exclusivity in this case was not because of user demand, but a plan to boost the stock price, as some already understood, but it seems like there has been confrontation between the developers and the management who are following shareholders' instructions. Capcom nowadays is different to when Okamoto worked there, the development team's voice seems weaker than before. It also looks like a lot of skilled staff will leave the company after the GC version of 4 is finished. But the people behind this rebellion are the developers, and they ask that you don't blame Mikami or Kobayashi. The GC version of 4 is the last one that Mikami will be involved in, the PS2 version will be passed on to someone else. People who used to work at Capcom are also shocked by this news."

So it seems that Resident Evil may be ending with the forth edition. However Resident Evil 4 will finish up the T-virus and Umbrella story that has stretched back to the original title.

its one of capcom's biggest franchises.

just because mikami is gone, i don't think they're going to retire the series.

He should just go to Nintendo if he wants to keep his games exclusive to Nintendo consoles. He should just take a lesson from SK and know that if his first few games aren't a nice success he'll be dumped faster than a Fox pilot.

AFAIK, Mikami was only directly involved with RE1 and RE4.

And why would the staff be so upset that the PS2 is also getting a port?

I don't blame Capbomb for wanting to port the game to PS2. What was the last game in the past month that reached over 500k?

hmmm, things could get interesting within capcom... a good time for the bigger guys to headhunt for some quality developers...

Regardless of the developer Capcom will milk the series till the bitter end, although with new developer it may come sooner then later.

Retarded whiners, if true. Mikami dumped the userbase, that made the series big and appreciated it the most without even thinking twice and bashed on Sony without them having done anything bad to him. Now Capcom needs the money really bad and he am crying because the series has to be shared with it's mother console brand again? Worst.industry.faggot.ever. With things being like this he better really joins Nintendo and shows what he can achieve with them.

I don't believe the issue is "OH NOES NOT PS2", I believe the issue is yet another case of management pushing the dev teams around. Management and publishers more often than not are really weilding too much control over their dev teams these days. The industry was born from people messing around with new ideas, it will not sustain itself in cookie-cutter mode, management really need to learn to follow their damn hearts more.
