Reactions to E3 sicken me.

Well? This is it? Each year these and other forums go into a frenzy for what? Mediocre showings and PR hype. This year is no different. Sony's entire press conference was chock full of BS buzzwords and techno-jargon (as usual) and pre-rendered cutscenes touted as real-time in game (as usual). And (as usual) the slack-jawed, sensationalist fanboys of the interweb eat up until several months from now when they all realize they've been duped, bamboozled, led astray, etc. (The Getaway) Am I, an intellectual and free thinking person, supposed to fall in line with these philistines and act excited over things I know aren't going to be indicative of what we'll see spring 2006?? Or even moreso over the 6th, 12th, 5th, and 4th renditions of "certain" games that haven't evolved much past the 2nd serving and weren't particularly fun then? Or certain pre-rendered scenes from sequels of horribly middling titles? Have we learned nothing from 2000? 2001, even?

What about Nintendo, you say? What about Nintendo, I say. Over the past 10 years, Nintendo's solidified it's niche in the game world. That's right. The terrible, overrated, generally crappy niche that fills the void for fans inebriated on nostalgia. This so called "Revolution," will more than likely do no more than encase the old Nintendo Mantra of "If is broke, don't fix it, they'll buy it anyway." And you know what? That doesn't seem to be inaccurate. The Newzboyz of the world pick it up on launch, despite Miyamoto practically walking around e3 in a pit-stain ridden tank top and they all say to their friends "I swear, I just slipped in the bathtub."

The only company that seems to care about gamers is the one that "gamers" seem to fear the most. The big megaconglomerate. The ones that are "invading" homes. They come to deliver and we all ignore the knocking and door bells because we think they're the landlord and we're several months overdue. Eventually, they're going to go away and we'll stick with what we have, yet complain about what we wanted, despite it having left a tag on the door knob saying "We came to visit you, but you weren't in we'll come by again on _________."

So should I be excited? I'm not jaded. I used to love the idea of E3, but if this is all it boils down to every year: Exit, stage left.

I just knew this thread was going to pop up :lol :lol

I wish I were a free thinker. Then I wouldn't be fooled into thinking that the first media shown for a new next-gen system is actually real-time stuff that is somehow relevant to the hardware being unveiled. Who in their right mind would assume that? Silly me.

*Wah Wah Waaahhhh*

We need O...P...A...and Sony Chinn disputing with one another on just how great the next PlayStation console is. Hopefully we have another Ridge Racer game at launch for that golden argument once again:)

Man those were classic days on the forum.

Don't worry, man. I still have faith that people will see the value in what Tiger Telematics have given to us.

Yep, caring for consumers is the 'MS difference'. That's why they're pushing stuff like 'trustworthy computing' so hard on the PC side. :p (And before anyone comments, I think that the point is relevant. All of us here use computers, which means that all of us are potentially affected. Buying MS products means giving your money to the company that's spearheading the TC initiative. The thought that our game purchases may be helping to fund MS' endeavors in that area gives me serious pause.) Say what you like about Sony or Nintendo, but neither of those companies is pushing an agenda that'll have serious negative repercussions for computer users the world over if it succeeds, while MS is. So please don't try to tell me how much Microsoft cares about gamers, or anyone else for that matter.

See, your rant was perfect until you decided to take sides. First you say all these E3 things are crap and deservedly bash the PS3 and Revolution. However at the end you take sides with Microsoft which kind of ruins the original point you are trying to make. All these E3 press conferences and PR hype is all bullshit. The PS3, the Revolution AND the Xbox 360. That is not only a much easier thesis to defend but it's also TRUE, unlike that half assed fanboy crap you just spewed out.

I totally agree with you about being jaded about E3 though. It's just the symptoms of our overly consumerist society that we find these 1 hour+ commercials to be entertaining and have to argue and debate over which multi-billion dollar corporations deserve to have more of our money.

Edit: hot damn, GA still censors the links. Thank God for Imageshack then.

Ah....what would E3 be without this thread? :lol

Man those were classic days on the forum.

At least their individual leaves arguments will seem more legit now. :lol

A couple months ago there was a lenghty thread on this board where 90% of the posters swore on their mother's lives that graphics didn't matter to them, and that gameplay was all that mattered. And yet you see most of the same tools jumping up and down over Killzone 2, a sequel to a game that sucked camel balls because it looks hot. Hey, the visuals look fantastic...but shouldn't someone feel embarassment for being so completely full of shit? How can graphics mean nothing two months ago, but mean the whole world now? For that matter, how can people claim to hate the sequel mentality in the industry, then celebrate PS3's lineup? But this shit has gone on for years, and it's stuff I simply laugh at now.

The demos are another matter...I reckon it'll be a while before PS3 hits those in game, as we've seen before. PS2 may have eclipsed it's initial demos, but it took a while...and the initial software looked so lowly in comparison they made the Dreamcast look good. Simply put, I don't expect their games next year to look that good. But at least they won't be suffering from jaggeritis. On the other hand, I think people are writing X360 off a little too soon. Final dev kits can make a world of difference...again, we've seen that before too. With all that said, PS3 sure seems to have it over 360 in the power department.

I'll probably get panned for being an X-boy or whatever, which is par for the course. It's just amusing how people constantly fail to keep things on an even keel, no matter how many times we've seen history show us that we should.

Aye good points. I had laugh, some friends where glancing at my pc during E3 PR blowouts and they thought I was hanging out in preteen forum, it gotten so bad here. Then again perhaps average GAF is under 14 :lol When gaming stop being about actual games?(Though this point not really much to play so understandable its about the tech to some degree) So glad internet was not around during snes era.

Good thread.

Lol... & o.pa getting subsequently banned for noticing jaggies which were not featured on the primitive DC.

You sound like an Xbox-evangelist to me: " Repent, and He (the one known as bill) shall save thee, for he loves you, blah blah blah...

Agreed, though I'm keeping my hopes up for DMC4 and GT5. Those bullshit arguments about CG or not CG should bear in mind that eventually, we WILL see those games.

<sigh of relief>

I wasn't sure if we were gonna see this thread this year!

I say, I gotta agree with Teknopathetic for the most part. I hope he's wrong about Revolution though.

The duping part especially.

Talk is cheap. FMV is even cheaper.

...I don't think FMV is the right definition for what you're trying to say... but I think I know where you're going. Suffice to say I have the same concern about some of the "demos" I saw of certain X360 titles as well as some of the PS3 tech demos.

I worry about both camps too, but from what I have seen I can tell some of the stuff from MS's camp is real time because some of it runs at such a shitty framerate and it looks to have been captured by a dev unit (which shouldn't be as fast as final hardware).

I just want to see all of this shit running right in front of me with controller in hand. :) Both Xbox 360 and PS3.

Gotta love the hype machines though. They are running full tilt!

You talking about Sony's conference being nothing but BS and bashing Nintendo and yet you praise MS? Did you watch MS's conference, it was full of so much bullshit PR speak and grand nonsense that it was laughable. Allard was cheesey, Bach was well over the top and Moore was bordering on ludicrious, in fact a lot of what he said was plain ludicrous.. But these guys are the guiding light of gaming ATM in your opinion?

oh please... loved the thread xbot. MS cares about gamers all right. Rape our wallets every chance they get with the new fangled XBL marketplace. Gotta love those cheap Xbox 1 upgrades too. DOA4 get! :lol :lol

Sony and, soon, Nintendo will show MS how to release a system.

Wow, I can't believe the fanaticism in here. It's amazing.

Your avatar speaks volumes.

I have to say that I agree with this thread. More trickery, foolery, corporate bullshit and people are lapping it up. Seems people love to be lied to, just to be amazed. That is pathetic. I don't have a vested interest in anybody winning and it still disturbs me.

What E3 needs is for Jesus to come in and kick everybody's ass.

Razoric seemed some what level headed before E3,as did Hitler Stole My Potatoe, but everyone is acting stupid now :P

You've noticed that too? E3 has been making a lot of previously even handed people become either paranoid loons or crotch chopping fanboys. All of us should remember from previous E3's not to take any of this as gospel. Some games will look better than they did, some will look worse, some will be on target. Some promises will be kept, some won't. A portion of the games shown this week won't even be released! It happens every single show. It's stunning the amount of winner and loser predictions people want to make after one day.

Yeah, I fell for the shitty hype last time around when PS2 was promised to revolutionize graphics ala toy story quality and the stupidity of how people were expecting CG seen at that time on PS2....omg still goddamn embrassed how easy I fell for that shit :P. Anyways I think I like MS the best since they had an actual unit and controller at hand. I like PS3 visuals but other than that I have no more faith in stupid ass tech demos or whatever else without the real system actually playing those things :P

Yep, nothing changes...and as I said before, the GRAPHIX DON'T MATTER, GAMEPLAY MATTERS!!!11 mantra that was so trendy just a couple months ago sure got changed in a hurry around here. Hey, I guess the next generation isn't starting too soon for people now is it? :lol As it continues...

I think being stuck on dialup this E3 after five years of broadband has been a blessing in disguise. I didn't watch any of the conferences, but they all sounded exactly like conferences in years past. Nintendo's overflowing with drooling, nostalgia-addled fanboys ready to embrace whatever new method the big N has devised for giving it to them up the rear. Microsoft trying once again for hip gamer coolness and looking like a sad sack of nerds. And Sony being just plain bland. Which, considering how embarrassing Nintendo and MS PR often turns out to be, is probably for the better.

The funny thing is that after trying to keep up with the rapidly ballooning conference threads and finding the bullshit to useful info ratio so high, I just gave up. Game sites have been little better (about the only one I've read that presented anything on next-gen that I considered readable was 1up). Actually I've found the threads on current gen games at E3 (Square-Enix's fall lineup and a couple of upcoming Nintendo games) far more interesting than all the next-gen stupidity now being spewed and argued over.

My E3 2005 anaylsis/rant isn't looking to good. Buth E3 2003 & 2004 sucked hard but this one~wow it blows them outta the water in terms of crappiness many times over so far.
