Real cute missions Rockstar (San Andreas)

The Zero mission where gotta fly the fucknig mini copter and kill 5 couriers, then take it back. This thing fucking sucks, I've been trying the past two hours to do it, but I can't. Closest I got was killing all five then running out of gas before I could get back. Rockstar, why the fuck did you put these gay ass missions in the game? They are worthless.

Anyone got good strategies on beating this mission. I've tried various combinations of who to take out first and who not to, but it seems completely on luck if you beat this mission or not depending which way the couriers move to, so you have enough gas to beat the damn mission. SHIT.

They're extra? The game made me go through them when I played it. I went on with the regular missions until those missions stopped coming and that was the only one left to do.

I'm not sure how the hell I got past it. The plane was flopping all over the place when I went after the last two. Fortunately for me, they happened to be in the same area so I didn't waste as much fuel (and one of them may have gotten hit by a car and rolled over, killing himself). I ended up just reaching the rooftop with the fuel pretty much empty.

Damn I hated that mission. Second worst only to the flight school, which made me stop playing it altogether.

Well, the first thing you need to do is get used to flying the plane. The controls are VERY loose, so whenever you need to make a course correction, do it very gently. If you just start yanking the stick all over the place, you're going to end up spinning out of control and most likely plowing into the ground.

The next thing you should keep in mind is that the fuel meter isn't really a fuel meter, but more of a timer. From what I've read, it only stops decreasing if you're at a dead standstill, but otherwise it runs down at a constant rate. So don't think that by taking it easy on the speed you'll be saving gas or anything.

The second most important factor in completing the mission (aside from having a good handle on the controls) is to take out the targets in the correct order. The couriers always start in the same position, and tend to hang around their starting area. The first one you want to take out is right in front of the building you start on top of. Just take off and start shooting at him. For the first van, you'll actually want to start shooting from a distance, since as soon as the van starts getting hit, the driver will jump out. You don't need to take out the vehicles, only the drivers.

As soon as you've taken out the first driver, your instinct may be to turn left and take out the blip that's pretty close to your current position. Don't do it.

If you took out the first target quickly enough, you should still be going straight from your initial takeoff path. If you look at your radar, there'll be another blip ahead of you a ways. Head towards that one. It's another van, but the driver won't get out when you start shooting, which means that you have to blow the van up. This is where knowing how to handle the plane comes in handy, as you'll have to be pretty precise. I don't remember if this van shoots back at you or not, but he'll definitely run as soon as he starts getting hit. This is key, as you can just land right behind him and unload the machine guns into the back of the van. If you're lucky, this will blow it up before he can make a run for it. Make sure that you didn't land too close to the van, otherwise you're going to get taken out in the explosion.

Next, head back towards the other blip that was closest to the starting point. It's just a guy on a bike, who should go down pretty easily.

Finally, you need to make the looong journey north to take out the last two blips. One of these is another van, and the other is two guys on a Sanchez. Both targets will shoot at you as soon as you start shooting at them. For the van, just come in close behind it and unload into the rear. It won't be able to return fire, as it shoots from the side windows.

The two guys on the Sanchez is the hardest one, as they can hit you no matter where you are. Like with the last two vans, just get in really close and fire away. Once you see them start to go up in flames, get the heck out of there. They still take a few seconds to finally explode, and they'll be shooting at you the whole time. Quite a few of my attempts at this mission ended with me with plenty of fuel left, and I got taken out by the Sanchez right before it blew.

If you did the order right, and took the targets out quickly, then you should have plenty of fuel for the flight back to Zero's. When I beat this mission, I ended up with a little over 1/3 of the fuel meter full.

On the bright side, it's by far the hardest mission in the game.

Just cheat if it's too hard for you. I did.

And I always like it when people declare SA to have "shitty missions" or is "the worst GTA in the series" et al because they can't beat this (optional) mission. It's as if the previous 10-20 hours of game before you got to that point didn't matter

I just landed behind each courier and shot the shit out of them. Finished the mission on the second attempt thanks to that little tactic. Trying to take them out from the air is a daunting proposition.

Finished this mission on my third go, first time I crashed while adjusting to the finicky handling of the RC plane, second time got shot down, third time landed with a good quarter tank to spare. Really wasn't all that hard. I also went after the guys to the northeast first, since they were the most dangerous.

Just use gentle course adjustments, line up your shot well in advance, and it's pretty straightforward.

Now that bike school jump to stoppie, holy shit, getting 100% there was pure fucking luck.

Haha, I remember this mission. I just about smashed my TV trying to get the control of the plane figured out.

But yeah, like Vlad said, once you get past the control issues, the position of the couriers is key. Take them out in the order he described and you should have no problem. Once I finally figured it out (through a very frustrating process) I beat the mission instantly.

The problem with this is that by the time you go all the way to the north and back, the three couriers near the starting point, who used to be relatively bunched up, can sometimes be really spread out, making things a whole lot more difficult.

It's also worth noting that if you come back for it, your flying skill should be higher -- which makes the task considerably easier (you have tighter control when your skill goes up)

They were indeed spread out when I did it. One was pretty far north of its original position, and the other two had wandered away from their start points too. Still wasn't difficult. In fact having the last three bunched up would probably have made it a bit tougher since I would have had less time between targets to set up my attack line. As it was, I was able to set up from a good altitude on a straight shot for each one pretty easily.

Oh, and my flight skill was a just bit over 20% as I hadn't done flight school at that point and had just stolen enough planes to get the license via flight time.

when I watched my friend to it, I seem to remember the plane being indestructable when you run into buildings and such.

that was his tactic, just running into the couriers and shooting

It's not indestructable -- the plane can accumulate damage (although it isn't visible) and will eventually esssplode. However you do have a bit of leeway as far as running into things every now and then.

Some of the mission design in SA was abysmal. The one where you ride the motorbike along the train track trying to catch the train was flawed beyond words. Any mission that involved computer AI as your backup - the forklift truck crate thing was another early example - was just really badly done.

Yeah this mission and the Cop Wheels mission almost caused me to give up on the game completely.

Eh? Cop Wheels was pathetic. You have half a day to finish, wanted stars are a non-point as long as you don't run over people getting to the bikes and you dispatch the cops quickly, and figuring out where to go on the Julius is easy if you've driven the length of it at least once

In what way were these missions flawed, in your opinion?

I never had a problem with either one of them. Sure, any AI assistants you had weren't the best shots in the world, and their guns did a fraction of the damage that yours did, but it was never a huge issue or anything. With the train one, all you had to do was stay far enough away from the train so that Smoke could get a better shot at the people on it. With the forklift, you just had to hop out of the forklift and take out anybody shooting at Ryder every so often.

My biggest beef with the missions in SA was the fact that there seemed to be too many shooting ones and not enough driving ones. The missions involving a large-scale assault were a neat idea, but the brain-dead AI combined with the overly-efficient targetting system (not a bad thing on its own, but against enemies that don't really move, it makes things too easy) made all of the shooting missions a matter of target, kill, select next target, kill, etc.

People really need to learn how to distinguish between bad game design and their own inability to excel with the game mechanics.

If you keep failing the Zero mission, you're probably trying too hard. Learn the controls for the plane and take it easy.

I finished that mission with at least a half tank of fuel left. After I figured out what to do, I was pissed at myself for not thinking of it earlier. After taking care of the 3 (I think it's 3) guys nearby at the start of the mission, I went back to the building and landed. Then I watched the remaining guys far off to the north on the radar. I was curious as to what their driving patterns would be, and if they might drive closer. While I sat there parked (not using any fuel) for about 5 or so minutes, they actually made their way damn close to where I was. So I took off, killed them, and made it back to the finish with plenty of fuel left over.

I told this strategy to some friends of mine, and some said it worked perfectly. However, 1 or 2 of my friends said the northern guys never came close. I played this mission twice more using my strategy, and it worked everytime.

This thread is a testament to what I like about the GTA games: even for this one mission, there are many different ways to approach beating it. I never would've even thought to do it Vicious' way.

I'm going to try that vicous. It isn't I have trouble flying the plane its the position of the carriers. I tried several different combinations, and taking out different ones, and they move in random patterns. I've took out the hardest two first, and sometimes they both will go down the same road, and I just take them out. Other times they are on two seperate blocks. And then I go back and one time one of the carriers was almost out of the CITY so far down. There isn't much you can do about that. I'll try vicous' method to see if it works, instead of going through hoping they go through the right direction.

Also an FYI - GameFAQ's sucks. Its hard to go get a FAQ without something being spoiled.

I owe you a beer, I tried that and got it, first time! Fuck yeah. Gracias holmes.

As one of my friends said, "leave it to you to find some ass-backwards way of passing a mission."

It's been brought to my attention that I almost never approach anything in a game the way it was meant to be approached. My friends say I "take the scenic route" when playing games.

I love gta.

Rock on, my brother!

The vast majority of GTA SA missions I completed on my first attempt. Zero's RC plane misson was not one of them. That one took me well over 10 attempts and heavy FAQing to get through.

IMO the hardest mission is
Key to Her Heart
because if you don't simply
kill Millie the first time you see her
it becomes a complete crap shoot if
she will ever appear again
. I couldn't
get the keycard until after I finished the main story, because
the bitch was never home.
