I'm not that of a specialist in audio. I bought this receiver at a really good price:

Yes, because I am a sony whore, but that's not the question.

I want to buy these speakers:

But they are only 120W RMS and the receiver is 170W RMS. So, is there a big risk to blow up my speakers?

Dear god, that's a lot of money for Sony audio equipment.

edit: To answer your question. No, you shouldn't have anything to worry about (unless perhaps you turn your receiver up as loud as it will go). I'd suggest not buying those speakers, though. Go to a local home theater specialty store and demo some speakers.

check how manu OHMs it is. The general rule is that a 8ohm speaker needs less current than a 4ohm to achieve the same loudness, with other words it stresses the receiver less. Also new receivers have auto shutdown if the receiver cant feed the speaker properly.... So dont worry about blowing up your receiver.

I have the receiver. Its digital amps kick ass.

Don't buy the speakers though.

I have some Canadian made Paradigms which are nice.

Speakers though are a matter of preference really. What I like may not be in tune with what you like where sound is concerned.

Please look at other speakers, like the Paradigm or JBL. I'm not sure how JBL's current offerings rank, but my JBL speakers from a few years back are awesome (given my setup).

Damn, that receiver is hot. I also have an ES receiver, about 5 years old.

And while I'm looking at your speakers I'm thinking, "he really shouldn't buy these" and I see I'm not alone in that opinion. There are so many better speakers you can buy with much better sound but the same amount of money because it doesn't have the gimmicky design.

Why, any special reasons? I really love the glass look, and actually, that's the main reason why I'm buying them.

Yeah, the reason being they are rubbish.

Get some Bowers & Wilkins, some Paradigms, or something that isn't made in Taiwan.

Why is Taiwain suddenly bad? The best brands have factories in China now.. also the very same factories create 50USD speakers to 10000USD speakers. The design is still primarly western, just made in China now.. Still the same thing.

Because it's usually a safe bet.

I'm not saying all speakers out of asia are bad, it's just that most are. It'll take to long to list good brands vs bad brands, plus it's somewhat subjective. If you stay out of asia though, you should do ok.

With most things, read reviews from reputable sources.
