Recognizeable Files on your Game CDs

While trying out Darkstalkers 3 in ePSXe, I decided to browse the contents of the CD for the hell of it, and came across a bunch of bitmaps of artwork from the game. Then I took a few other games, and searched them for files my computer would recognize. On Torneko: The Last Hope, I found a nice .wav of Torneko's theme. I'll have to convert the thing to an mp3 though since its over 30MB.

Here's some of the artwork, resized smaller:

Anyone else ever find anything worthwhile on their game CDs? It'd be cool if there was a site which listed games, that had files you could easily take from their CD.

I once ripped the lunar 2 outtakes, and in between them there was a "warning" about me copying them to my computer and "illegally" lisenting to them without beating the game :lol

If you have any Saturn discs, check them out on your PC. There's a good chance to find an omake or extras folder with goodies.

Definitely try Saturn games made by Sega. VF2, Burning Rangers, and i think Sonic Jam and Fighter's Megamix had PC extras. Dead or Alive (Saturn) had the infamous OMAKE folder. The stuff isn't anything you can't find on a website now and the sizes are a bit small, but they're still pretty nifty extras.

Nights had some wallpapers on it, as did other first party Saturn and Dreamcast software. I think Night Warriors had some readable files as well... hard to recall.

Hehe, it's true you can find some 'really interesting' stuff in disc-based games. I found a music video inside one of the Xenogears' disc (that's certainly not in-game). Other things... a picture hidden in Soul Calibur 2 from the anime Haibane Renmei(!).

Many PS1 games before 1998 had songs that could be copied and played on the PC without any converting. I remember Jet Moto 1&2 and Twisted Metal 1&2 did it. Twisted Metal 4 may have done it too, can't remember.

Castlevania symphony of the night has a remix of the castle music if you put it in a normal cd player (track 2 i think, been awhile)

True Pinball (PSX) has the songs as regular CD tracks, IIRC.

Oh, and I love that Xenogears video. That music track wasn't used in-game, and it's one of the best. Stars of Tears. Strange that they remade it for Creid when it wasn't even "officially" in the game.

The first run of Tiger Woods '99 PS1 had the South Park "Spirit of Christmas" clip on it in MPEG.
It got some people in trouble, IIRC.

That's right! The first track has some creepy guy telling you that it's a data track, right?

That was Alucard.

And I think it's a pretty obvious one that some Dreamcast games had some nice little goodies, such as Sonic Adventure...

The dummy file, which you can find on any PSX game, for Beatmania Best Hits was actually the source code to the Beatmania 5th Mix engine as an LZH file.

Brilliant move, Konami.

I never made that connection. What the hell is wrong with me?

Yup -- the soundtrack to Vigilante 8 was outstanding, and was on the disc as normal CD tracks.

Most Saturn games and many of the earlier PS games had redbook audio, so you can play them in a CD player. All of the Wipeout games did. :)

Which disc is this Xenogears video on?

1 or 2. Most likely 2.

There's a buttload of audio files in the SotN disc that aren't in-game. The entire japanese audio track is even in there.

Does anyone have any links to these? I can't seem to find them on the net.

I thought I recalled reading in an old EGM (or something of the sort) about the ability to play the Saturn version of Wipeout on a PC relatively well or something..
