Recommend me a desktop PC

Can anyone recommend a sub-$400 PC with decent specs? It can be several years old or refurbished. Monitor and graphics card are not needed. (But please no micro ATX or mini ATX cases.) It needs to have 16gb RAM (or more is okay I guess).

Thanks!

You're asking a lot for 400 bucks. Maybe look at second hand pilediver builds? They're actually quite decent cpu's even for some gaming. 8xxx series.
Or maybe take a look at some second hand i5 sandy/ivy/haswell builds. Those might be in your price bracket. 2xxx,3xxx,4xxx series.

If you're looking to cut costs, you're going to want to avoid pre built PCs in general. Then it depends on what you plan on using the PC for, etc.

Not enough info, and you're not going to want to avoid building your own if you intend to get anything even somewhat worthwhile for $400

Yeah, there are a ton of these on Amazon. Refurbished Dell PCs. Was hoping I might have other options.

Is Piledriver AMD?

You are going to need to up your budget to at least $800+ for something "decent". Is this build for gaming?

Suggestion for new build:

16GB is 80 bucks. corsair vengeance lpx ddr4 2x8gb 3200mhz
4-core CPU is 120 bucks. ryzen 3100 or 1600af
power supply is 50 bucks. a reliable brand like corsair@450W should be enough
128gb ssd is 25 bucks. crucial bx500 sata3
motherboard is 80 bucks. asrock b450m pro4
a case is 50 bucks. fractal design focus g

you are now 5 bucks above budget

good thing you don't need a gpu!

Guarantee you that nobody you know in real life will give a shit if you built your own PC. It's just an obnoxious internet brag, but people love talking into a void for a false sense of validation.

Uh, but anyway, I dunno what you'll find under $400 with the specs you want. I'd suggest looking at a local thrift/second hand store or your nearest electronics and PC recycling shop.

Building your own rig is not about bragging. It's about getting the most bang for your buck. Putting your own machine together is one of the most satisfying and fun elements of the hobby.

If your budget is $400, you'd be dense to put any of that towards the obvious up-sell and service fee included in a pre-built machine. Plus, when something inevitably goes wrong wirh your rig, you'll have no idea where to even start.

OP should look into scrapping together something on PCPartPicker, and utilizing the benefit of pre-owned hardware.

1. I used to build my own PCs in the 2000s. I built my current PC. I don't consider it fun anymore.
2. I play indie games and don't play competitively. This is not a "gaming machine" and I don't require a RTX 2080.
3. I do need a Windows 10 Pro key and 16GB RAM.

I've used this site multiple times for Windows keys, and it's always worked for me. It should save you some cash.

What kind of GPU and other hardware do you currently have? Include peripherals in your list.

What will be the purpose of the computer?
