Not Enya stuff.

Just slow rock or pop that I can just sit still and listen to, or even have on the stereo while I study. A good example would be Massive Attack's Teardrop.

A few of you seem very music literate so I figure I'll get better recommendations from here than if I just ventured on my own trying to discover this stuff.

Air, Talkie Walkie
Aphex Twin, Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (hard to find)
Beck, Mutations
Bent, The Everlasting Blink (end the last song after a couple of minutes)
Blue States, Nothing Changes Under The Sun
Boards of Canada, Geogaddi or Music Has The Right To Children
DJ Shadow, Preemptive Strike or ...Endtroducing (may need to remove a song or two from the playlist)
Sigur Ros, Agaetis Byrjun or ( )
Thievery Corporation, Sounds From The Thievery Hi-Fi or The Mirror Conspiracy
St. Germain, Tourist
Zero 7, Simple Things

Yeah I was just going to come in and say Sigur Ros, except I don't like Sigur Ros. Put the album on random and you still don't know when the track ends.

Check Supreme Beings of Leisure. Some of the stuff of the second album is more upbeat, swing even, but they are still top billing when it comes to my background music. "Nothing Like Tommorrow" floors me every damn time I hear it.

except Bob Dylan....I can't read or study when listening to Bob Dylan for some reason.

Could always try slow classical music. That used to do the trick for me - I'd do wonders whilst drawing at 2am in the morning with the Joe Hisaishi Symphonic Suite playing to me in headphones.

dont listen to Elliot Smith or Nick Drake while you study. the last thing you do is contemplate suicide while hearing their lyrics.

the greatest chill music is Miles Davis - Kind of Blue. it can be either as intricate or as simple as you want it to be. a close second is any Brad Mehldau album.

I rarely listen to music when I study but lately I’ve been listening to “to zanarkand” from FFX for hours while doing work... XD

I like to listen to Wilhem Kempff peforming all 32 piano sonatas by Beethoven. I have the Deutsche Grammophon boxset, and I cycle through the 8 cds in order. Damn, one of the finest collections of recorded music ever.

Holy crap! Didn't expect this amount of replies. That's great. I needed some suggestions because I really don't know who or what to look for even though I've been wanting it for a while now. Now I have a pretty good idea. :)
