Were there any games besides Devil May Cry that originally started as (rejected) RE4 engines? I seem to vaguely recall that both PN03 and Dino Crisis 3 originally started as RE4 prototypes, but I'm pretty sure I'm wrong.
Not that I've ever heard. I know they final version of RE4 was the 4th different build, but I don't think that they ever did anything else with the others, besides the 1st sorta've becoming DMC.
I remember that RE2 was originally gonna be a completely different game, they were like 60% done and they totally scrapped the whole thing and made a completely different game, because they didn't like how it was turning out. I wonder if a beta of that 60% game ever emerged...

Some of the RE 1.5 files are actually still on the final, released RE2 CDs. I remember digging around the disc with some app to convert PSX image files into PC bitmaps so I could get the title screen and stuff and found some of the RE 1.5 files, including the character select screen and some background stuff. Kinda makes you wonder what else is still on the discs...
Actually, DMC1 uses a brand new engine seperate from any RE game.
RE4 (2001) simply laid out the groundwork in terms of characters, basic setting etc, environment artwork, development team etc.
A lot of the actual game wasn't even started before Kamiya and Mikami made the decesion to do something new, as the game started getting more spiritual/demonic than your typical zombie fest.
I hope the previous version of RE4 (with ghosts/spirits etc) is what we see in the next Resident Evil game. Keep the perspective and mechanics of RE4 but set it in a supernatural atmosphere.
WHile that site is really interesting, they make it sound like the 1.5 version never actually saw the light of day. Or at least they make it sound like there are no leaks out on the net. I'm very curious as to the story of how it got leaked, if it in fact did.
