But you get a free LIVE ACOUSTIC version of the Widow to download from Napster if you buy it at Best Buy!Flynn said:Tell them you want to price match with Circuit City's $5.99 price.

the result is a homogeneous shitheap of stream-of-consciousness turgidity.

Huh? The new Mars Volta is decent. De-Loused was indeed better, but Frances the Mute is still good. It's different and perhaps stretched too thin in it's idea of prog greatness, but it's still worth $7 IMO. As for you not liking Some Cities by Doves... your loss! Some of the songs on there would probably make Corgan blush with envy. "Sky Stars Falling" sounds like a combination of Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam, actually.FrenchMovieTheme said:diablos i sometimes wonder how you can be correct in your assessment of the greatest band ever, but how you are so wrong in your like towards shitty bands/albums.![]()
Boring AOTY, but pretty decent album.Diablos said:Whoa, were they describing themselves for a second there?
There is some hope left for them, though. They gave what I am almost positive will be my AOTY a 7.8 (Some Cities by Doves.)
Boring AOTY my ass. I'd guess that you probably think the latest Kings of Convenience (or something similar) is better than the latest Doves, and if so then perhaps we can really start talking about boring AOTY's.enjoy bell woods said:Boring AOTY, but pretty decent album.
Oh COME ON.White Man said:This record is worse than the second Sparta album, and that's saying quite a bit.
OMG WTF.White Man said:This record is worse than the second Sparta album, and that's saying quite a bit.
EDIT: Also, I was a big proponent of the first Volta record. It was far from perfect, but when the songs hit, they really hit. This new album is just a meandering hunk of garbage. I'll sooner be caught listening to Tales of Topographic Oceans than this indefensible heap of melody-bereft exercises in placid, embarassing indulgence. If Deloused was the world, this is what's dribbling off of its chin. Grade A disappointment.
What does that band have to do with anything? I think the new British Sea Power album is the best thing I've heard this year, and I'm still holding out for SFA's next. I just can't get all that excited over albums that are merely OK, which the new Doves album is. I like Kings of Convenience, but I'd never consider anything they've put out remarkable. Same goes for The Doves.Diablos said:Boring AOTY my ass. I thought At the Drive-In were great back when I was in that other stage of my life. The Mars Volta has never done anything for me.PuertoRicanJuice said:I think the album is definitely not as good as De-Loused, but it's definitely worth 7 bucks. It definitely is too out there, and some of the filler goes on way too long. And I'm not even talking instrumentals, it's just nothingness basically. I definitely love most of Cassandra Geminni, L'Via L'Viaquez and The Widow though.
And seriously, am I the only one that hates ATDI and likes TMV? I can't take Cedric's screaming punkish voice when they were ATDI.
They're included with the CD booklet this time around, so they're probably somewhere on the Internet by now.enjoy bell woods said:Has anyone figured out the new album's lyrics? I'm dying to hear what that genius Cedric came up with this time.
Diablos said:Wiretap Scars was decent, but their latest is just crap. It's safe to say Sparta is pretty much done. It's too bad At the Drive-In couldn't keep it together. I like TMV but I think more ATDI albums would've been better.
OMG WTF.
-The Widow
-L'Via L'Viaquez
-Cassandra Gemini
-Famine Pulse
-Con Safo
All of these songs (or parts of the album) fuckin' rock. I'll agree that the rest kind of pales in comparsion, but I could say similar things about De-Loused.

I laughed very hard at the first sentence.White Man said:For 7 bucks I could almost be dining like a king at Quiznos. The new Volta isn't even worth Subway prices.
Diablos said:It's amazing how much Cedric and Omar have evolved since the days of ATDI. I'm listening to In/Casino/Out, so hard to believe it's them.
You're no fun, White Man. No fun. In/Casino/Out is a fabulous album. I didn't like Relationship of Command too much.White Man said:Casino/Out is a pretty generic record. ATDI is one of my favorite bands, but even I can't bring myself to listen to the tedium of Casino/Out and El Gran Orgo.
