Circuit Shitty no more! At least, not tomorrow.

I can't vouch for that price at all Circuit City stores, but the cashier at Best Buy this morning offered the price match voluntarily. Can't complain about that.

Tell them you want to price match with Circuit City's $5.99 price.
But you get a free LIVE ACOUSTIC version of the Widow to download from Napster if you buy it at Best Buy!

I just can't believe the album's release snuck up on us with no "HEY BUY THIS" thread. I remember when the first album came out, there was a pretty big thread reminding me to go out that Tuesday and pick it up.

no offense but this is one of the most overrated bands around. when they play live, all they do is come up with these 10 minute bullshit songs where they play so many progressions, by the 5th minute it gets fucking old. i am all for 10+ minute epic songs, especially live, but not the garbage they pull. they aren't a bad band, but people treat them in a higher regard than i would personally treat them. not a bad price though

Whoa, were they describing themselves for a second there?

There is some hope left for them, though. They gave what I am almost positive will be my AOTY a 7.8 (Some Cities by Doves.)

diablos i sometimes wonder how you can be correct in your assessment of the greatest band ever, but how you are so wrong in your like towards shitty bands/albums. :(

Huh? The new Mars Volta is decent. De-Loused was indeed better, but Frances the Mute is still good. It's different and perhaps stretched too thin in it's idea of prog greatness, but it's still worth $7 IMO. As for you not liking Some Cities by Doves... your loss! Some of the songs on there would probably make Corgan blush with envy. "Sky Stars Falling" sounds like a combination of Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam, actually.

Boring AOTY, but pretty decent album.

Boring AOTY my ass. I'd guess that you probably think the latest Kings of Convenience (or something similar) is better than the latest Doves, and if so then perhaps we can really start talking about boring AOTY's.

This record is worse than the second Sparta album, and that's saying quite a bit.

EDIT: Also, I was a big proponent of the first Volta record. It was far from perfect, but when the songs hit, they really hit. This new album is just a meandering hunk of garbage. I'll sooner be caught listening to Tales of Topographic Oceans than this indefensible heap of melody-bereft exercises in placid, embarassing indulgence. If Deloused was the world, this is what's dribbling off of its chin. Grade A disappointment.

Wiretap Scars was decent, but their latest is just crap. It's safe to say Sparta is pretty much done. It's too bad At the Drive-In couldn't keep it together. I like TMV but I think more ATDI albums would've been better.

OMG WTF.

-The Widow
-L'Via L'Viaquez
-Cassandra Gemini
-Famine Pulse
-Con Safo

All of these songs (or parts of the album :p) fuckin' rock. I'll agree that the rest kind of pales in comparsion, but I could say similar things about De-Loused.

What does that band have to do with anything? I think the new British Sea Power album is the best thing I've heard this year, and I'm still holding out for SFA's next. I just can't get all that excited over albums that are merely OK, which the new Doves album is. I like Kings of Convenience, but I'd never consider anything they've put out remarkable. Same goes for The Doves.

You're really pugnacious, man. I said the album was good.

Has anyone figured out the new album's lyrics? I'm dying to hear what that genius Cedric came up with this time.

I was a huge fan of At the Drive In, so i naturally jumped all over the MarsVolta, but much to my dismay their album sucked.
I wish they would just bring back ATDI....

If by "genius" you mean "incomprehensible tripe"...

I think the album is definitely not as good as De-Loused, but it's definitely worth 7 bucks. It definitely is too out there, and some of the filler goes on way too long. And I'm not even talking instrumentals, it's just nothingness basically. I definitely love most of Cassandra Geminni, L'Via L'Viaquez and The Widow though.

And seriously, am I the only one that hates ATDI and likes TMV? I can't take Cedric's screaming punkish voice when they were ATDI.

This release makes me angry. Some of these songs go on so long for no fucking reason! I get no pleasure from hearing these guys wack off.

I thought At the Drive-In were great back when I was in that other stage of my life. The Mars Volta has never done anything for me.

They're included with the CD booklet this time around, so they're probably somewhere on the Internet by now.

Geez, I guess I'm the only one here who actually liked Sparta's second album. At first, I wasn't sure how i liked it, but it grew on me. And yeah, I think its better than hteir first. oh well, to each their own.

I downloaded this album, but I'll pay for it to support the band. It's a great record. Thanks for the heads-up BC!

Not the only one, I agree with you on that. So far I've enjoyed every MV and Sparta release.

My biggest problem with it as well.

This album reflects their live show much better -- long, improvised musical movements puntuated by brief moments of song.

My complaint is that the beginning/ends of songs drag on for wayyyyy too long. Way too long.
That being said, most of the songs (or "parts" :p) themselves are good.

btw, you can get your free music download if you purchase the CD at Best Buy.

It's okay, but I've burned out on the Mars Volta as of late. I may still get the vinyl of Frances though, it has an extra song which I have heard pulls everything together.

For 7 bucks I could almost be dining like a king at Quiznos. The new Volta isn't even worth Subway prices.

It's amazing how much Cedric and Omar have evolved since the days of ATDI. I'm listening to In/Casino/Out, so hard to believe it's them.

Casino/Out is a pretty generic record. ATDI is one of my favorite bands, but even I can't bring myself to listen to the tedium of Casino/Out and El Gran Orgo.

You're no fun, White Man. No fun. In/Casino/Out is a fabulous album. I didn't like Relationship of Command too much.
