Happy Happy, Joy Joy! Ren and Stimpy fans who missed out on last year's Time-Life offerings can rejoice! Paramount has quietly let retailers know that Ren and Stimpy - The Complete 1st & 2nd Seasons will be available to sell in-stores on October 12!

Over 30 episodes will be present on this release: "Stimpy's Big Day", "The Big Shot", "Stimpy's Storybook Land: Robin Hoek", "Nurse Stimpy", "Space Madness", "The Boy Who Cried 'Rat!'", "Fire Dogs", "Stimpy's Storybook Land: The Littlest Giant", "Marooned", "Untamed World", "Black Hole", "Stimpy's Invention", "In the Army", "Powdered Toastman", "Ren's Toothache", "Big House Blues", "Out West", "Rubber Nipple Salesmen", "Sven Hoek", "Mad Dog Hoek", "Haunted House", "Big Baby Scam", "Dog Show", "Son of Stimpy", "Monkey See, Monkey Don't", "Fake Dad", "The Great Outdoors", "The Cat That Laid The Golden Hairball", "Stimpy's Fan Club", "A Visit to Anthony", and "The Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen".

For those of us who managed to get the short-lived direct sale offering before Time-Life's rights (quickly) expired, there's still good reason to also get the new set. Besides 10 episodes that weren't on the old discs ("Mad Dog Hoek", "Haunted House", "Big Baby Scam", "Son of Stimpy", "Monkey See, Monkey Don't", "Fake Dad", "The Cat That Laid The Golden Hairball", "Stimpy's Fan Club", "A Visit to Anthony", and "The Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen"), Paramount's release will also have these extras:

* Audio Commentary
* Featurette
* Image Gallery

Neat add-ons that make it worth adding this to your collection, eh? Something else that would make it worthwhile is if these turn out to be the completely unedited versions of each short. As an example, in the episode "Powdered Toastman", a document is burned in the fireplace, making a joke out of the ignorance of "PTM" when he unwittingly shoves it in. Originally the paper was identifiable as the U.S. Constitution by the words "We The People" at the top, but on the Time-Life DVDs it is only a blank piece of paper. This is just one example of the edits this show has seen, both for broadcast and on the old DVDs. C'mon, Paramount...give us the unedited, original versions of each cartoon!

The running time is listed at 418 minutes, and pricing info isn't yet available. Nor is cover art, but we expect to have that reasonably soon. Stay tuned for more! In the meantime, recite the oath: "I do hereby promise only to watch the Ren & Stimpy Show..."
oH GOOD LORD

Mr Horse: Do I know you? Did my wife send you? How do I know you're not from the FBI?

Ren: No sir, we're just rubber nipple salesmen.

Mr Horse: Alright, so I made a mistake! Can't a man stop payin'? HUH?! :narrows eyes: Maybe I should make another mistake... or maybe two...

Ren: Please, sir! We're just selling rubber nipples!

Mr Horse: Oh, so it is a nipple! Oh, what you must think of me. Forget everything I said! So, nipples, huh? Hmmm... nosir, I don't think I need a nipple. But I tell you what, though... :holds up a walrus: Do you have any rubber walrus protectors?

Walrus: (whispering) Call the poliiiiiiice...

I was the only kid in school who hated Ren and Stimpy. Really. :(

Try being the only kid in 1994 who didn't like Nirvana and who didn't weep over Kurt. It was worse than a music thread on these forums, I tell you.

In kindgergarten, I used to sign my name as Ren on all my fingerpaintings and alphabet papers. The teachers just eventually got used to it. So I am obviously excited about it.

You guys will appreciate this story:

John K. pitching Jimmy the Idiot boy to someone at a comics show,

"So Jimmy, he's not just retarded. He's FUCKING retarded!"

You were in Kindergarten when Ren & Stimpy came out? Jesus, I feel old right now.

This is the show that changed American animation (despite Nickolodeon's best efforts). Whatever happened to Ren & Stimpy's Party Cartoon or whatever it was called on TNN? I loved that, but my cable got disconnected after about six episodes and I haven't had it nor heard of it since.

OH HELL YES! This is so mine.

Were there only 2 seasons?

The first couple are the only ones that matter.

And yeah, if that other guy was in kindergarten when R&S came out, I'm feeling old too.

I think the gay stuff made a lot of the normal Spike TV people not watch. At least that's what I heard.

The old Nick stuff was great though, before John K left (the first two seasons were him, I think- the show ran from 1992-1995 or 6). Just really out there stuff which was totally inappropriate for kids, and we loved it.

It's a bummer that it's listed as "uncut", because it IS cut. 5 (out of 32) episodes have cuts. Here's a list of stuff cut:

Stimpy's Toothache
- Ren & stimpy saying goodnight to eachother
- Some scenes of Stimpy brushing then spitting into a jar
- Some of Ren griniding his teeth out in his sleep
Haunted House
- Entire 'Bloody Head' scene
Bug Baby Scam
- Extreme closeup of Ren being scraped along Mr. Pipe's stubble
- Grandpa whistling to Ren & Stimpy in the bath
The Cat That Laid The Golden Hairball
- Some scenes of Stimpy licking off his fur
Son Of Stimpy/Stimpy's First Fart
- Ren saying "Here's your Christmas present, Stimpy. I hope you like it...wherever you are!"

There may be more, but this is what's been noticed so far.

You can see and download some of the cuts here:

http://lyris.landofwhimsy.com/misc_rs-lost-scenes.php

Furthermore, some of the uncut sequences have timecode over the picture:

John K. has responded to the news of the cuts with this:

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=2290

It's sounds like he did the best job he could. Episodes had stuff added and removed multiple times before and during their run at Nick. IMO it's worth it to get the set, but I hope someday a REAL uncut R&S set is released. Oh, and if you get it from Best Buy, you can score a bonus disc with two season 3 episodes.

That's disappointing heavy, but not unexpected. The Time Warner DVDs from last year were censored/edited as well.

Can anyone remember which season it started to suck? I'm not talking about the newest ones that've just aired (I haven't even seen them); there was a big sudden drop of quality, almost as bad as The Simpsons.

In 1992 Nickelodeon fired John K. (creator, animator and voice of Ren), and then cut up and reassembled eight or nine Ren and Stimpy shows that hadn't aired yet.

These episodes were started by Spumco (John K.), and finished at Games Animations:

-'Dog Show'
-'Sven Hoek'
-'Haunted House'
-'A Visit to Anthony'
-'Big Baby Scam'
-'Stimpy's First Fart'
(Retitled 'Son of Stimpy' by Games)
-'Fake Dad'
-'Stimpy's Fan Club'
-'Monkey See, Monkey Don't'
-'Mad Dog Hoek'
-'Royal Canadien Kilted
Yaksmen'
-'The Cat That Laid The Golden
Hairball'
-'The Great Outdoors'

Most (if not all) after this really sucks. Adding to this, Billy West (voice of Stimpy) did the voice of Ren after Nick fired John K., so Ren sounds weird.

Thanks, that explains it then. Why the hell would they fire him?

I only briefly remembered the show from childhood and bought the set... I'm amazed at how fucked up this show is, and what they got away with. These episodes are hilarious.
