Or both?

This song is kind of everywhere now, and when I first heard it, I really dug it. Then I found out it was written to advertise some Jeep Renegade suv or something. I can't remember the last time an alternative song was written purely to advertise a product so this is kind of gross. Still, you can't tell from listening to the song itself, so I still think it's a good song, But honestly, everytime I hear the song now, all I can think about that stupid truck.

Personally I think this song is annoying as hell. But I see no problem with liking a song just because you like it.

Bands struggle for years to make it big. I am happy for anyone once a song hits mainstream especially one of those songs that show up in every commercial.

Who cares why they wrote it? I love decode by paramore and I see fire by Ed sheeran and those were written for movies.

Who cares.

Well, personally I think there's a bit of difference in creating a song for a movie soundtrack versus for an SUV commercial

I don't either, I'm just saying it's hard to divorce the idea from the song in this case, so much so that it's making it difficult to enjoy it. It's hard to listen to it purely for the song itself without being reminded that's it's essentially a commercial.

Who says it was written for that commercial?
OP was wrong, It was not.
It was already being worked on.

The brand has partnered with Interscope Records and built a campaign around Brooklyn-based band X Ambassadors' song "Renegades." While developing Jeep's new campaign, Fiat Chrysler chief marketing officer Olivier Francois asked Interscope Records for a song that might complement the brand's new marketing.
"Olivier came forward and challenged us to deliver a song for him that had the theme and the spirit of the new Jeep launch," said Steve Berman, vice chairman of A&M Records at Interscope Geffen. Coincidentally, X Ambassadors were working on a song that had similar themes to what Francois was looking for. "Sometimes you just get lucky in the timing of how things works. ['Renegades'] was a piece of art they [X Ambassadors] were already recording."
